Never ever had a card with them before. I understand Citi, AMEX and Chase being difficult but Barclays?
This is what I have. Just came out of a 2 year gardening. Around 20% util, is that why they are being picky??? No lates ever. $30k student loans, no mortgage. AAoA stinks for sure. Real FICOs in my signature - Barclays is pulling my TU. Each has 4 or 5 INQ - 5 others just fell off recently. Recon didn't work! I hate calling for recon too, I know you have to but I HATE IT. I'm so awkward and it never works.
VS $500
Lowes $500
Discover (gave me $5,100 2 years ago when my Cap1 Platinum was around $1,200) still at $5,100
Cap1 Platinum (old credit steps) $4000
Cap1 QS1 (still in credit steps LOL) $850
QVC $1,400
Kohls $300
Target $1,000
Amazon Store Card $1,200
Walmart - just approved - $1,200
BoA - just approved - wheeee! - $2,000
PSECU personal loan - $3,000 ($2,300 remaining due, should I be calculating that in my util?)
Not a big fan of Barclay's myself. Try the other banks
Sorry to hear that - I've had great luck with Barclays, but two things jumped out. They are not only inquiry sensitive, but also new-account sensitive. You said your AAoA is low - were several of the accounts you listed opened in the past year and/or past 6 months? If so, that might be what's hurting you.
I'd try waiting 6-12 months, let some inquiries roll off and your new accounts age. My experience has been that once you are in they are very generous, but they do seem to be picky about people who appear to be rapidly acquiring several new TLs.
How many cards of those were opened up in the last six months? There's your answer.
Barclays is very touchy and they watch accounts like the NSA, it's pretty annoying. They just cut my limit because I had too many inquiries. It took me a while to get in also, just depends on the card you go for ultimately.
Barclays puzzles me. I got in with 620 at the time, 20 inq, and bunch of unpaid baddies from 5+ years ago. Started at 500, and reconnect CLI to 1000 at two months.
With TU that high it must be the new accounts. I got the Barclay's Rewards last Jan as my first card, also with about 30k in student loan debt, TU was 670ish and only got a call about verifying my address. About 4 months later I got the Sallie Mae instantly approved.
