Ok so...I give up! Back in November NFCU told me through secure message (after I tried to recon a denial) that the reason they didn't approve me was because my bankruptcy discharge wasn't a year old yet. They offered me a secured card but I didn't take it because I thought I would wait until my year discharge anniversary (which is this month) and try again. Well, my credit union offered me a card so since I had to allow a hard pull for that, I thought I'd try NFCu again. Well, it was a Friday afternoon so I got the "we'll contact you in 24 hrs message" ) but I didn't get an answer until Monday afternoon. When the email sent me to another secured message I already knew I was toast but I checked anyway and sure enough it was another denial but without any explanation this time. I haven't received the paper version yet. I have read so many people say that they have been approved with a lot worse profile than mine so I don't get it. I thought about trying another recon but I don't think it will help. I would love to know what you guys think is the problem.
So, here is my info (or my shame😏): chapter 13 2011(D.C. 2016) which is my only baddie still showing, inquiries 17 (I know, I know 😔), utilization 34% ( it will go down next month bcs I have paid off all of my store cards (yay! I'm keeping them for the utilization % and perks). After I apped for the mobile infirmary credit union (local cu) card I apped for NFCU. I then apped and was approved for Belk card (ironic that the following Monday they sent me a preapproval letter), then I tried for Ally card (under review), stein mart (under review-most likely denial) and new horizons credit union (local cu under review) and Dillards (under review, I didn't expect an approval but I HAD to try😒). I fully expect to get a bunch of denial letters next week. I apped for these because I figured I'd try for these since I'd already taken the hp hit and these are the ones I most want. I understand I have to go live in the garden for at least 6 months now.
I would love feedback.

Take the secured card. I had a similar experience took the secured card and then within a couple of months they gave me a unsecured card at 5k and CLOC at 15K. The unsecured card is now at 18k and the secured card graduated late last year and was raised to 2k. Get your foot in the door and than worry about getting unsecured credit.
Also understand that they use Transunion for the approval of credit cards so your other scores don't really help you .
Oh wow! Ok thanks! I will!

You answered your own question (except they don't hate you)
Your BK was just discharged in 2016 thats pretty recent.
17 inquiries is ALOT
34% utilization is VERY HIGH considering your recent discharge.
Pay down your debt and don't apply for ANYTHING (except secured NFCU card) for at least 6 months and try again.
In the meantime get a secured card from NFCU and build history with them.
Good luck!

Also i want to point out since u applied for nfcu , you also submitted a couple other applications to other institutions and they look at the as credit seeking, that paired with the recent discharge is not a good look for the credit analysts, you should pay off your balances and get to below 8% utilization and maybe hit the garden for a year or 2 let the inquirys fall off , remeber its not a race is a marathon, if you do that you will certainly be approved. best of luck!
