It seems that way. While the the benefits probably serve some, I wonder how many people will keep the card beyond a year.
I'm def. keeping mine more than a year.

What is it? Why do special? I read the benefits online but really don't think anything appealing... And its not under visa mc Amex or discover but just diner club right? Confused.....
Diners is not offered year round.
Also I very high starting credit limits. It's a MasterCard. But for international travel It can be outstanding.
Pits a relic of the past. The first credit card ever. But for a 20k starting limit a must have.
the adds you saw are from when they had their own network. 14 digit cards.
They sold out about 8-10 years ago. Now MasterCard.
The confusion is with Diners Club (the card) vs Diners Club (the acceptance/transaction network)
Diners Club the card is licensed/run in the US by Bank of Montreal ... For a card with a relatively low AF, they seem to be handing out stellar limits, and are not overly INQ sensitive..
Diners Club (the acceptance/transaction network) is owned/run by Discover.. they bought it.. A Diners Club card (with the Diners Club acceptance logo, issued OTHER than the US, is on the Diners Club/Discover Acceptance Network... and can be processed as such... (as well as the reverse, Discover cards supposedly can be run over the Diners Club acceptance network)...
Diners Club (The Card in the US)... is a Mastercard and is treated as such... Looks like a Diners, feels like an MC....
Its easier to think of them as... Diners Club the card issuer, vs Diners Club (the card acceptance/transaction network)
I posted this reply on another thread of someone asking the same thing, so I copied and pasted my list from that thread.
IMO, this card is attracting a lot of attention from varous groups of people seeking some or all of these features:
1. UW standards are not that high - scores as low as upper 600's are being approved
2. Generous CL's - which is great for builders/rebuilders, MS'ers, or high limit enthusiasts trying to collect as much CL as possible
3. Usually pulls TU - (though some have been double pulled w/ EX). Helps most save EX pulls for Amex or Citi, etc.
4. Not Inq sensitive
5. Possibility of hidden TL - though CSR's have been stating that it will report
6. First time in awhile that it's open to consumers - there are those that are feeling nostalgic
7. Travel perks - lounge access for as low as $95 AF, Primary CDW, hotel collections, trip insurance
8. Chip & Pin Priority w/ No FTF - don't have to sign up for CU's or have military/government affiliations
9. Airline & Hotel Partners - Alaska, Hawaiian, DL, BA, WN (with the possibility that points transferred count toward Companion Pass), Hilton, and SPG being the big draw
10.3X on grocery, gas, and drugstore categories for the Elite version and it is uncapped (for now) - we'll have to see what happens when MS'ers get rolling.
I got this card for the last 3 on this list.

I don't MS, don't know enough and don't have time or energy to do it but on FT (which even has a section on the forum about MS'ing), there are quite a few who are planning to take advantage of the uncapped feature of this card in order to MS for rewards.
If you don't want the risk of AA, maybe you shouldn't even think about it

I agree. Will wipe out of mind.

A lot of people, including myself, also want to use the card as a prybar. Higher limits beget higher limits. So the huge limits will give other creditors an incentive to match or surpass those limits. Unfortunately, I only got $10k starting limit but after 6 months I will be requesting a big cli. Especially since my TU will be squeaky clean then.
another issuer isn't going to issue you a higher (or same limit) just because you already have a card that has a high limit.
If that actually works, everyone will be applying for a credit card with a credit union before they apply for any cards with a major bank. A CU can easily dish out 5 digit CLs without much effort, but national banks tend to be more "stingy".
The biggest factors are still going to be your credit report, income, and internal score (if any). Say this person's income is 60k and his highest CL is 20k and he has total 30k credit limit. Another bank isn't going to offer him 20k just because he has a card at 20k. His DTI ratio, debt and risk exposure, and repayment capabilities are all factors that banks take into consideration as well. So, in some cases, a high CL may instead be an incentive for lenders to issue a low CL or even deny the application simply because you already have too much debt exposure.
I know a person with 1 highest CL at 6k with Wells Fargo, and the rest were overseas cards issued in other countries. Other stuff on his credit report were just mortgages or auto loans. He had not applied for any credit cards for a long long time. I convinced him to apply for 2 more cards just because he's spending a lot of time overseas and he could use a US credit card overseas too. Applied for CSP and Citi. Both gave him over 25k each.

overall this does seem like a decent card. I won't get it now simply because of the situation I am in with Chase, and even next year I am not sure if it's worth $300 just to earn a little more SPG points. For some people this seems like a pretty good deal though.
