Hello All,
I'm a serial rebuilder, but thanks to a nice bonus at work I finally paid everything off to achieve AZEO and have maintained it for a year. I've had no super serious baddies (no collections, CO, BK, etc.), but did have one 60 day late in 2016 on a CSP that resulted in Chase closing the account immediately after reporting the 60 day (I also had a Freedom which they did not close, had no lates, and is still open). Currently have a EQ 755 and EX 754 and applied for the CSP again for the 100k bonus and got the 7-14 day message. Will Chase ever forgive me?!
It's possible but I would wait things out on the final CSP decision before even thinking that they "hate" you. It's not love or hate. Just a business deicision on whether your overall profile meets their lending criteria, that's all.
Do you use the Freedom card at all? What's the CL? Besides the 60-day late on your prior CSP, have you had other lates (outside of Chase) in the past 24-36 months?
Thanks FinStar. Have always appreciated your measured advice on here. And yeah, I'm being a little dramatic. Lol. No, no other lates since the 60 day in 2016. The Freedom is at $4k, and had one auto-CLI a few years ago from $2,500. I use it to pay some bills but nowhere near the CL. Maybe a few hundred a month max.
No worries @sterl1002. It's all good.
Ok, let's hope that the CSP *magic* can work in your favor this time around. Worse case scenario, if it gets denied, they could cite the previous [CSP] relationship, but since you satisifed/paid the account off, perhaps a reconsideration may be possible. Just something to think about in the event it doesn't play out in your favor. I could be wrong!
I'm assuming you are currently below 5/24?
My advice is you not wait for the denial letter, because you already know you've been denied. Call Chase's Reconsideration (second chance) line and innocently ask if there's any more info you can provide, or anything you can do to effect the approval. The CSR will probably say "I'll be off the line for 2 to 4 minutes" and then will come back on to inform you you've been denied. Calmly and politely explain that, yes, you did have a problem back in 2016, but that you've been perfect or near-perfect ever since. Explain that you have no late payments, no derogatories, no extraordinary indebtedness, that you're solidly employed and that your credit scores at all three CRA's have only moved consistently in one direction - up. We hope you'll get your second "I'll be off the line for 2 to 4 minutes" and the CSR will come back to inform you you've been approved.
The above is exactly, in detail, what I did the day after I opened a checking account at a Chase branch and applied for the CFU. I was told my denial was based on short credit history. My plea overrode the decision.
Best of luck!!! 🙏
I had a Chase charge off of about 5k about 10 years ago but satisfied the balance. Just a few months ago I applied for the Freedom Flex and was instantly denied. I called the recon line shortly after and she couldn't do much. The next day I called again and pleaded my case and was approved for a toy limit of $700. So yes, you can, but may take some time. In your case, you're still doing business with Chase, so I don't think it will be as long, but definitely, call the recon line. I would recommend calling again if it doesn't go your way.
Well, gave the recon line a call, who said they had to connect me to the verification department, who said they had to connect me to another department regarding this application, and that line currently has a wait of "over 50 minutes" to talk to someone. Ugh.
Ok. So I talked to a rep on the recon line and they said that it's going to a verification process and has not been approved or denied yet. I guess that's better than a instant denial. Fingers crossed!
It sounds like it's progressing in the right direction so hopefully you can share some good news once everything is finalized.
Chase closed my Freedom card a while back when my score dipped and I am pretty sure they hate me too. My Dad has a lower limit Freedom card (not sure why) that I might ask to add myself to and reapply eventually (have to get below 5/24 first).
Sorry you are having such trouble. Since you still have one account, you can make a positive history.
