I'm mostly looking to get the United Explorer Card since I fly united a couple of times a year and the free checked bag would come in useful.
After this month my three 3 oldest accounts will all be at least 1 year old and on June 4th, my new Amex BCP should report with the high limit.
I'm looking for advice on how much to wait and how to prepared for a new application to the United explorer card (or worst case CSP). I know I'll need a card with at least $5k limit which is where the AMEX comes in but I don't know if a brand new account will be enough. Should I try to get a large CLI on Discover or Citi so those accounts would also be above $5k? And how should I space that out in comparison with the actual App?
I was personally thinking waiting for the Amex to report and then wait for Discover to close my 12th statement and then go hard for a CLI even if it requires a HP (as long as it's not Experian which is what Chase pulls in my area) and then do the same for Citi after that statement closes. But I'm not sure how Discover and Citi will feel about CLI's before/after the AMEX showing up on my report. So my question is should I request these CLI's before AMEX shows up? After? And how long should I wait after all things are done before applying to another chase card assuming 5/24 doesn't stand in my way (it didn't seem to impact my last application with Chase a few days ago even after recon and there seem to be various reports around Chase loosening up on 5/24).

I get the feeling you think you need to have at least one high limit card to get either of your two target cards; based upon both my personal experience and numerous posts I've read here, I do not believe that is the case. For me, I had only one 5,000+ card (and only by a little) last December when I applied for my CSP; I was instantly approved for $11,700, and this was after burning Chase in my 2015 Chapter 13 for over ten-grand.
Chapter 13:
I categorically refuse to do AZEO!
Your approval is impressive but a lot of other people on this forum seem to agree that Chase likes to see a high limit card and this was specifically told to me when I applied a little bit ago and they mentioned they could not approved me for two reasons, 1 was because I had no accounts older than 1 year and they require that for the more premium cards and that I didn't have any comparable credit limit above $5k (excluding retail accounts). Those are the reasons why I am trying for the high credit limits although they may not 100% be necessary, I'm just trying to follow the recommendation I was told by Chase representatives.

The one year rule I might easily believe, the high limit card I do not.

Alright then. Do you still have any advice either way for the CLI's?
I do not believe there is any one magic bullet for getting a CLI; every lender is different.

Does everyone else agree with this? or is there anything else I should take into consideration
Chase wants time and limits. Simple as that.
I would let the BCP report and not worry about the CLI to the Citi and the Disco. I got a CSP after a year of new history with a 7.8K SL and it was my second larget limit behind my Disco at 9K at the time. (Also making only 30K while in school) I was denied for a Freedom card only 5 months before for time length of revolving accounts.
So you had at least a year of history with two cards, 7.8k SL and 9k CL before getting approved for the CSP.
If you don't mind sharing because I would love to try to compare profiles at the time of approval, were those your only cards reporting? How old was your oldest account (I'm assuming the Discover card?)
In that case, would you recommend waiting a whole year before applying then? In order to have two years for my CFF, Discover, a year and a half on the Premier and 1 year on the Amex. That would probably look good for Chase but I was trying to get it before the school year started since I fly twice round trip in the Fall Semester and once in the Spring so the free checked bag would be useful.
Just out of curiosity, have you considered the United Quest Card? If you spend $100 a year on United, Quest's $100 statement credit makes the cards about the same price but with better benefits.
