I recently applied for the Barclay's NFL card (Go Bears!) and was promptly given the "we'll let you know" sort of response. Checked the app status on-line and saw it was denied. No huge shock as I have a dozen or so INQs on my reports. The letter arrived day before yesterday and stated the denial reason due to length of revolving credit. My oldest account is north of 2 years. Do they generally like to see more? Is it worth it to see about a recon on with Barclay's....are they even open to it?
It's worth a recon, if for no other reason than if denied again and you ask the UW nicely what you can do to improve your chances next time they tend to give useful feedback, not just standard pick-from-the-list canned responses.
I also think it is worth a recon. Barclaycard is unfortunately the only card where I tried recon, but it didn't work out in my favor though. But the rep was nice and it was a relatively painless call. So I say give them a call and hopefully your experience is different than mine!
The first time I applied for the Apple card (I know, different portfolio) I was declined. I tried to recon and they told me I needed at least a year of credit with 1, but preferrably 2 creditors. I applied again when I had 2 cards. one 18mos and another 12mos. I was declined, but when I reconned they approved me and I was able to negotiate a pretty decent starting limit as I was planning to buy a rather expensive computer.
I say give it a shot.

While it can't hurt to call, with a lot of inquiries and a short history (AAoA) you can expect to get rejected for new accounts more than being approved, especially for prime lenders. Barclay's is kind of funny, and not really that "loved" on these forums as they'll reject you over and over until they accept you.
Barclays first let me in with the plain Jane Apple Card with a $4k SL(no rewards) which grew to $10k before I closed it, a year or two later they approved me for a Choice Privileges card with a massive SL of $250 which I immediately reconned saying that limit was unusable for even a weekend stay at a hotel, they wouldn't budge and I closed that card during that call, by the third year of our "relationship" I got a CashRewards Card $5k SL, currently $11k and on my 4th year with Barclays I got the RING card $11k SL, currently $15k.
I recently applied for the UBER card and was denied with something to the effect of "you have enough credit" (and yeah I do but $100 back for $500 spend is free money) so I had the DW apply for the Uber card, instant approval $11k SL and it's her first Barclays card.
My point with all this personal "Barclays" historical data is that good cards and good limits are "built" over time so don't try to get it all in one day or year.
You definitely need to call for recon and you got at least 2 years on your oldest account. Your HPs may be the reason for denial.
I recently applied for Uber Visa with at least 1 year and 3 days on my oldest account and instant denial. Called for recon and denied. Called for recon again and asked if I can speak with supervisor, and no supervisor but the lady offered to move my case to another department, gave me case/reference number and phone number to speak to. Woke up to an approval email and I haven't called the number the lady gave me.
You got better chances due to your credit history I'd say but its worth to call.
Ditto on all responses to try! Can’t hurt ☺️
thanks for all the input. i think i'll give them a call tomorrow if for no other reason than to at least get a feel for when would be a good time to re-apply. Is there a preferred number to call for recons? I am aware of the 'backdoor' numbers but after looking over them I have no idea which one to use. Thanks again!
Does anyone have an idea on what kind of credit you need for an approval for the uber card? I am an AU for the Red card with a limit of 19K does this help at all? Of course it depends on my credit, but just wanting to get an idea. Thank you!
