Attempting to rebuild my credit after having several chargeoffs and lates on previous credit cards. I went without any credit cards for over two years. Just graduated college, attending graduate school in the fall. CR showing student loans, a recent car loan, and A LOT of baddies.
Started rebuilding in Jan and opened a Discover Secured ($500) and Capital One Journey ($300), which I PC'ed to a Quicksilver Visa after 3 months. Went a little nuts with apps after my Quicksilver was only bumped up to $500 in June.
Current fico score = 600. I was approved for the Quicksilver One Mastercard ($500) and, to my surprise, Nordstrom ($300) and Bloomingdales ($800). Still in shock over the Bloomingdales limit because of my terrible CR. I'm pretty excited, despite the Nordstrom low limit, to get in with 2 high end department stores. These stores aren't available where I live, which is perfect, because I'm only planning to charge less than 30% shopping online and pay in full each month on the store cards.
Nordstrom says CLI are available after 7 months of continual use and possible upgrade to their Visa card later on. Bloomingdales mentions possible conversion to their Amex after 1 month of using the card. I wasn't expecting such a high limit, but I wonder if I have a chance to upgrade to their Amex. Does anyone have experience with Nordstrom CLI and, or upgrading to Bloomingdales Amex?
It would be amazing to have a Bloomingdales Amex I can use to rack up points everywhere. I'm not sure about the UW requirements for Bloomingdales Amex, but a representative said it would take a month to review a possible conversion?

It doesn't have to be continual...
I was approved for $2500 in December... made a $200 purchase and then PIF. Jan-April I had no usage. May I made a $70 purchase and then PIF. No usage in June... got a $2000 auto CLI to $4500 last week.
I called requesting the VISA and the rep told me my next CLI should bump me over the $5k required for the VISA sig and I should get the conversion.
Thanks for letting me know that tidbit! Great to hear your success.
I'm planning to garden and decrease utilization for a year, so hopefully my terrible scores increase to where I can get a decent CLI from Nordstrom. Not much to spend with a $300 limit lol which can be good for me right now
