capital one venture question

hello everyone i have a question.... i plan on applying for a travel card from cap1.... the venture $95 AF is currently offering a limited time $250+75k miles promo.. but the higher end card venture x $395 AF is only offering the 75k miles.... i pre qualify for both and would prefer the venture x but my question is can i apply for the venture take advantage of the promo then upgrade to venture x?

The answer is... Maybe.  They sometimes offer upgrades, but not always, so there's no guarantee.  I totally get wanting that extra $250, but if you want the Venture X, I would just go for it straight away while you have the preapproval in hand.

Edit to add:  Capital One can be weird about Venture X approvals.  Some people get approved with a 680, while others get denied with 800+, and it's not always clear why.  That's why I say strike while the iron is hot.

@Patient957 thanks for response and advice.... yea maybe ill just apply for venture x... and yea i see its real hit or miss with people applying for them... i think they pre qualify me because all i have are cap1 credit cards and have good relationship with them and pretty much no inquiries or utilization

do not apply for the venture with the expectation that you'll be able to move to VX

you may not even be able to do it now if they are issuing venture as a MC and VX is still a Visa Infinite 

you unlikely won't get a $10k limit which will be the minimum for the VX

if you want the VX, grab the VX, the extra SUB is not worth it. if the only thing you care about is the SUB, then just grab the venture and one day they might let you grab the VX too, but I wouldn't count on it
