So I was at work sitting on my lunch break and started the credit card application prcocess for GreenState Credit Union based in Iowa, which I just recently joined. Turns out after you initially enter your info, it soft pulls your credit and lets you know if you're prequalified before formally submitting an application and incurring a hard pull. Says my limit is "up to $15,000" on every card GreenState offers. Just wondering if anyone knows how solid these prequalifications are?
This was a popular card back around circa 2022/2023 for 5% cash back on hotels before GreenState geofenced all their credit cards and loans, so I won't be surprised if there isn't anyone here familiar with their soft pull prequalifications that they do.
@Royalbacon I have a list of credit unions that accept the American Consumer Council. Green state Credit Union is a credit union that does. There membership map that shows where they accept members from is below
https://www.greenstate.org/about-greenstate/join-greenstate
If memory is correct you live in another state besides those shown. How did you become a member? Did the pull Chex?
Edited to add The reason for my questions is this. I have seen some posts that say they not geofenced and others say they are. I lean towards the geofenced side of the conversation. Simply because on their join screen it will only take zip codes in Iowa and selected other areas. If there is a back door I would like to know what it is.

anything that uses the "clutch" interface is just marketing, your application will be fully manually reviewed and their "highly likely to be approved" nonsense means absoutely nothing.
you'll know it's clutch if at the bottom it says:
expect a full manual review, expect doc requests, the whole 9 yards.

I live in Minnesota. When you go to apply for a credit card or a loan it says this You must be a full time resident of Illinos, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, or Wisconsin to qualify for loan products at GreenState Credit Union. By proceeding, you acknowledge residing in one of these states.
They also allow you to join online via American Consumer Council now, it's an option on their website application now. Yes, they pulled ChexSystems as well.
Don't quote me on this but I think they may allow members from anywhere, it's just their credit cards and loans are geo-fenced now. But don't quote me on that.
ALSO, I GOT APPROVED. THE FULL $15,000 AND THEY DID NOT REQUIRE POI/PAYSTUBS. Approval topic coming soon.
Update - Here is my approval thread, and this thread be can be locked now. Thank you!
