help! back away from app spree?

local cu said i needed 680 on EX to get best rate. checked experian.com, they said i had 687.

was ready to apply for loan and 2 amex cards, and possible 2 cap one cards today

cu says my credit score is 664- still getting the loan, but rate isnt as good. should i back away and not apply? or are they using a crazy scoring model?

It's up to you whether you want to wait or not for the CU loan.  It doesnt matter what model they are using, that's the score that they have for you.  It's most like a Bankcard enhanced version of EX.

Re: help! back away from app spree?

sorry - i took the loan. they shortened the term to get me pretty close to the rate i was looking for. just going to pay it off in 3 years instead of 5.

i mean the cc apps. by the credit pull database, i should be ok with 687, but 664 is a little scarier.

For the AMEX cards, you're borderline with that score but don't rely on card match.  That's just marketing and in no way means a preapproval.  If you want the cards that much you're going to have to decide whether a HP is worth it if you're denied.  Which ones are you interested in?

Re: help! back away from app spree?

Do you have any derogs in your EX file? If it's clean, you may have a shot. But if you have some baddies with your current score, it's probably not likely.

i have 8, newest one is 38 months ago.

amex seems to be out of reach. wonder if i should go get the two capone cards (venture and prestige) or wait and apply for them all later

You already have a decent card selection. I think I'd stay off the app button for a while. Let your cards and file simmer for six months or so and then take a look at apping again.
