Well, 1st of all.. if this is true.. no wonder why I had been wasting alot of INQ on TU with Chase for past couple of years.. but it is true that chase will auto decline your app even with 8 to 9 years old BK reporting on CR ? and low UTIL as well and no new baddies since BK discharge date as well.
I don't know to much about Chase but that wouldn't surprise me! They seem to be picky about whom they give credit too. Its almost like yuo got one chance with Chase. The second chance is almost unheard of from the research I have done. AKA Don't burn Chase!
No, it is not true. It is a myth... There are several people on here that have BK reporting and have gotten Chase cards. If you are getting declined, there has to be other factors at play in the decision made...

I was specifically told by a Chase CSR who appeared to be knowledgeable and experienced that if there's a BK on your CR, even a very old one, you are auto-denied.
However I have seen someone in this forum claim that they did get a Chase credit card with a BK in their CR.
What the truth is, I don't know. But I wouldn't spend a hard pull with Chase with a BK in my CR. It's not like there aren't plenty of other lenders.

Partially true, from what I've noticed. Answering yes, as far as having a BK, on the application will result in an immediate TD, from what I understand. The method for some people has been to answer the question "no", so that it forces the app to proceed, or to be manually reviewed. I have read stories of successful recon, once the app is fully submitted the the CBs are pulled. Also, let's not forget about the 5/24 rule.
I have a chase, just a 500 limit tho with BK, had to get it with a recon, was denied for BK 9 years ago. Got it last novemeber. I just auto pay a vet bill on it for 24 a month.
My mom was declined for a Chase card a few months ago, and the only reason listed was a Bankruptcy on the credit report.
This IS true. I have first hand experience. I had a BK back in 2005 but have had excellent credit since, had FICO scores in the low 700's/high 600's and about 8/9 years out was getting approved for pretty much any card so I tried my luck at the Chase United Explorer card and denied and it was because of the BK. They literally went no further than that.
However, the good news is, I did a recon and they approved me after explaining it had been so long AND the fact I had a Chase Freedom with a $9400 CL. I lucked into that as it was originally a WAMU card before Chase bought them out. So initially the rep was going to give me the United Explorer card but transfer/take some of the CL from my Chase Freedom card. I agreed to do that figure I could at least have the card and reap the benefits but then the rep put me on hold and then got back to me and told me that they just approved me for 2K outright. No pulling from my other card! Great News!!!
So in summary, Chase will not approve you with a BK still on your record but you can recon/backdoor and have success!!

Not true. You can't rely solely on a word of a CSR telling you what Chase will and won't do. Allow me to use this example alone and there are many many stories like this if one uses the search button. This example has BK approved without recon.

did you reference the right thread? the OP in that thread clearly stated they had to recon to get the chase card
@Scupra wrote:So, after closing on the house I decided to let Chase have a look at my credit and asked for a CLI. I requested to be increased to $5,000 knowing they will counter offer max. Got a decline message online and called in. The kind CSR let me know that because of the BK it was auto declined, just like the app originally. The CSR and I went over my credit for about 10 minutes which included some questions about the BK. Then he told me any profile with a BK needs to be sent for further review and to expect a letter in 7-10 days. Well, I decided to forget about it because it's Chase and I have a BK..
Just logged into my account and noticed my new limit is now $5,000!!!!!!! Very shocked they approved for the full amount I requested
Color me impressed that after 8 months of having the card I went from $500 to $5,000
