Couldn't he try Discover first? Maybe they might be a bit easier on him despite the lack of revolving credit history. Does he have any checking accounts with Chase?
I think the sooner he starts having his own revolving line of credit, the better so he doesn't have to piggyback off you.
If he's gonna go with CapOne, it also better be a good card. CapOne Journey might be good for him to start out with. It upgrades easily to the Quicksilver with no AF.

He's probably blacklisted with Chase...stupid when he was going I think? He doesn't remember.
Isn't the journey card for students? He's not a student but if it's worth a shot then he could try it.
How is Discover with a baddie that is almost 7 years old?
My dad somehow has the Journey card and he's not even a student at all. He was also able to get a secured Discover It even with some tax liens and collections on his report.
What baddie does your BF have on his report BTW?
Update - He was approved, he didnt want to risk the student question and having it be declined and wasting a triple pull. He is no longer a student (used to be) So he did apply for QS1 and was approved. The $39 AF isnt huge especially since its a 1 year AF and i know we will be able to get it removed and refunded through the EO.
CL = $300 Of which is awesome because its a start Trust me after fighting so hard on trying to remove Collections and other baddies, this is a wonderful start!
@skye12329,
Congrats.. Keep up the good work.

Discover approved me (secured) with 3 or 4 very old baddies. Save the inquiries and toss a couple hundred on a BOA secured card. you can add 1-2-3 rewards to it which will prob cover the annual fee. No sense in wasting inquiries on cards that may or may not be keepers. A couple single pull secured cards and he will be off and running. The BOA one and USBANK have potential to graduate.
If going for USBANK get the harley davidson one. 0 AF. I feel silly pulling the card out as I don't ride a harley, but saves me30 bucks lol. If you have him go cap1 try the find my card thing. Chase, BOA, have pre qualifier sites that give actual offers. Discover pre qual gives random blah blah blah.

Only issues with that are his scores according to a few lender pulls were between 585 - 600. Also i have never done a secured card before so not sure on how they fully work. I know they still have to be approved for a secured card correct? So i didnt want him to risk more inqs. on the same bureaus vs trying 1 inq across all 3. ON the brightside those inqs wont be affecting as bad after 1 year and fall off after 2. Thats the way i see Inqs.
