Re: blispay backlogged???

Just perusing posts by people who have been approved, it seems their consensus is "Blispay is picky, you have to have high scores and high llimits to be approved" (in other words, they think they were approved and admitted to this exclusive club because they're the cream of the credit crop). Then you see their scores are in the 600s to mid 700s with double-digit utilization and inquiries, and fairly low limits/available credit.

The first, likely experimental, wave of apps is probably not indicative of their current focus... they closed it down for a while and obviously rethought their strategy before reopening for new apps. The second (current) wave is more fine-tuned to their intended direction, as they analyzed the spending and payment patterns of the first wave of approvals and saw which profiles made them money... and didn't.

The people with the highest scores, highest limits, highest available credit, lowest utilization and fewest inquiries are now the ones being denied or outright ignored. I see no evidence from the posts on this board or others that Blispay is approving the strongest profile or best credit. Seems the better your profile, the less likely it is that they want you. Those of us for whom it's a given that we'll be instantly approved for $25,000 CLs are the ones being given the shaft by Blispay since they reopened apps after the initial wave, and that says a lot about the type of customer they're targeting. Their aim is to make money, not give it away, and they're narrowing their focus to people who fit that aim.

Who really knows what they are doing.. I had a 710 Exp score when I finally got approved after verification (actually passing the verification, but not at new address long enough thus was declined).. This didn't work for me and at time they didn't recon.. Lets just say I got it reconned and overturned as address issue was a easy way out.  Ended up with 6k approval.  That is fine as it is a hidden TL.  All my other cards are around 15k-30k CL's. My score at time of approval was 710.  I have 1% utilization, PIF every month aka no creditors are making money other than $200 I let report for Score purposes and 200k in CL's, 6 figure income and some OLD baddies on my report.  So summing it up someone not in the high 700s or 800s is a "risk" and "more likely" to pay interest simply isn't true at least on this forum, maybe people that aren't quite as credit savoy.   I can assure you they will not be making a penny interest off me and alot of the other people on the forum that are still "rebuilding" which is probably 90% of this forum.

Yes they are a company and want people to forget and carry a balance beyond the 6 month deferred financing or make it for charges less the 200$ that aren't paid off is where they hope on making their money.  This is the hope of any CC company without people paying interest any credit card giving out 1.5%ish+ rewards would fail,  thus the people that pay interest are the ones that allow this other cards to be available to people that PIF each month.

Blispay is still a young company and figuring out things as they go so don't assume just due to one having a 800 score they are getting declined or being put in limbo as there isn't enough evidence of this.  With that said I do feel bad for the people yourself  incuded that are in limbo, but I highly doubt it has to do with your "high" score.  Although that could be a theory, but in all honesty I don't think it really has anything to do with the hold-up.  TD Bank that does verification for Blispay and First Electronic Bank are sticklers!  Yes you are dealing with TD bank on this as well, they do verification, UW etc of the card.  So 3 parites at least I know are involved Blispay/TD Bank/First electronic bank in the limbo.

Best of luck to all of you stuck as I had to go through a similiar thing, but I managed to get around it after a few days and some calls and faxes

Re: blispay backlogged???

It's hard to deny, looking at the available data points, that the profiles being approved are generally not as strong as those being declined or ignored. You can usually deduce from that what a creditor is looking for. Not sure why people are willing to accept that concept (standard approval criteria and patterns) for other creditors, but not Blispay. Current approval profile for Blispay appears to be circa 700, lots of inquiries and even baddies (old or not, having baddies is a flawed profile, credit-wise). That's a generalization, but I've seen enough data on this and other boards to be able to make a correlation.

Like I said, we're all quite happy to say "AmEx approval standards are [whatever]" or "Navy does/doesn't like to see [whatever]" etc., but for some odd reason, Blispay is exempt from such generalizations. And it really doesn't take a genius to see that they opened up applications, handed out money like water, then shut it down and regrouped. Like any new company would do (as a marketing analyst, I know how this works... I do it every day). Since they came back online, the approval picture has changed. The people reporting denials or limbo are the people with the strongest overall credit profile. Higher scores, fewer inquiries, lower utilization, totally clean reports. These customers are not profitable, so the focus has moved to customers who are more likely (not guaranteed... nothing is) to be profitable. People who do or might carry balances, and have average, slightly flawed profiles. Not horrible, not great. That is obviously Blispay's sweet spot.

As for any TD Bank connection, TD would have no problem verifying me, as I have been a TD customer since 2003. And frankly, my credit profile and history are more than satisfactory to bigger and better "sticklers" than Blispay. And that riight there, the "stickler" comment, is why I think some people refuse to accept any theory other than "Blispay is really picky, and they picked ME!!" Many people like to feel as if they were specially chosen for an exclusive product that others weren't good enough to get. They don't want to hear that MAYBE they were chosen for reasons that might not be as flattering as they thought. Human nature is what it is, and there's no accounting for how people feel and why. Some people really do feel that the look, color or material of a certain card will impress a cashier, server or date. Smiley LOL

Anyway, I don't need this card but I'm still curious about it nonetheless. I've recognized and accepted that I'm not the kind of customer they want, and I'm OK with that. I'm also not the kind of customer Fingerhut and First Premier want, and I won't lose sleep over that either. I was intrigued by the hidden TL aspect in case I ever wanted to carry a balance without hurting my credit. But it's not necessary for me.

Re: blispay backlogged???

i couldnt agree more.  with all the data points ive been reading,  i know im not the type of customer blispay wants but i did like the idea of a hidden TL if i needed to carry a balance for whatever reason without hurting my scores.

i didnt know td bank was part of blispay.  ive had an auto loan with td bank for a few years so being verified by them shouldnt be an issue, if they are the ones doing it.    if they are truly looking for just that certain customer to make them lots of money by paying interest, i dont think they will approve me.     i got 1 card i let report a small $250-ish balance each month to show activity to mr. fico.

im roughly 10 days in limbo.  im hopeful to hear something by the end of next week.  im not very optimistic at the moment and my frustration with them grows each day.

fico scores - August 2024:
TU - 733| EX - 737 | EQ - 730 |
TCL - 174K - UTIL - less than 1%

Re: blispay backlogged???

Still gotta disagree my best friend has 840+ across board scores (not a member MyFico) applied last week got instant approval for 10k and has 0 cc debt other than house and car payment.  I talked him into applying as well due to hidden TL 0% apr for 6 months and 2% CB.  Reference is 840 Fico scores, 300k+ income and he owns multiple houses and a car and a long AAoA with 3-4 inquiries on each CRA.  Continue to believe what you would like though..  I tell him what to apply for since I live and breath credit Smiley Happy

I do agree something is slowing them down for some people though, what it is I have no idea.  Keep holding out hope.  I understand your frustration and your need to vent.  Just throwing out the theory they don't like high scores as that simply isn't completely true as my best friend is evidence of this.  He also has about 170k in open credit cards TL's

Re: blispay backlogged???

I don't think there is any consistency here at all.  Above a person with an 840 score has been referenced as being approved with their max CL.

Me on the other hand, with my 734 EX score I fall more into the "sweet spot" range that many have been suggesting could exist, yet I've been in limbo for coming up on 2 weeks.  I've got a couple of old baddies on there, but very low inquiries.

I don't think anyone can pinpoint what Blispay is currently looking for.  Maybe THEY don't even know at this point.

Re: blispay backlogged???

Agreed.  Congrats on your approval during very strange Blispay times, though!

Re: blispay backlogged???

I applied 7/1/16 and was told to call. They pulled my EX on 7/2/16. Just speculation but could it be possible they manually review all applications. When no one to review the call in 5 business days pop up. With so much interest they get overwhelmed and applications get put on the shelf and forgotten. Just saying that as mine was approved in the middle of a holiday weekend without calling. It makes no sense how people with great scores and income get declined for bogus reasons. The only reasonable explanation is computer and operator error. Me as an example. Paid state tax lien dropping off 8/16 income net $27,500.00 CS EX about 760 approved where others in 800s and $150k plus denied.

Re: blispay backlogged???

So I had an interesting but brief conversation on the phone with them today.  I called this morning and said I applied 2 weeks ago, still hadn't heard a decision.  I said I called last week on Monday and they told me to call this Monday (yesterday) which of course was July 4th so they were closed, so, I'm calling today.

The woman entered in my SS#, I assume looked at my file on her screen, then said "do you mind if I put you on hold so I can see if I can get a decision right now for you?"  Obviously I said sure.  She came back in about a minute, and said "they are actually working on your application right now... they should have a decision in 24 hours, probably sooner.  You'll likely receive your approval via email when they are complete."

"Your approval?"  Not sure if I'm reading into this too much, but I got the impression that she somehow felt from talking briefly with whoever reviews apps that I was going to get approved.  Or, maybe she just used the wrong word and didn't mean to say that.  Who knows.  Anyway, we'll see tomorrow if I get an email.  If I don't hear anything tomorrow, I'll call again on Thursday.
