i applied for CLI online for my sears citi card. they said that they need to forward it to credit dept. what soes this mean? i have had the card for over 1 year with great payment history and low balances.
It sounds like a denial. You can try the Citi EO, but supposedly they are not very good at all with recons.
I also wouldn't expect a Sears credit card to grow too much. I don't know what kind of CLI you are seeking, but store cards seem to rarely exceed even $1k in limit.
Your application is pending further review and we need additional information from you. Please call 1-866-606-2787 now to receive an immediate decision. should i call this number or use one of the back door numbers
I would use the backdoor number as the number they give is likely a frontline CSR who will probably not be able to overturn any potential denial.

Please let us know what happens. While I agree with the above that store cards usually stay small a store like Sears that sells bigger ticket items (tv's, large appliances etc.) has the potential for some growth. I got a Sears card in November that started at $1000.00 so I'm interested in your outcome for future reference. Good luck

this is standard... just give it a few hours and they will usually respond and you can log in and see new CL.

The message OP got does not necessarily mean a denial. I requested a cli online for one of my citi card a year ago and got the exact same message. Called the number they said to call and frontline CSR looked at the account and transferred me to credit analyst. Basically the info they requested was the reason for the request. Gave them my reason and was approved for the requested amount.
@OP - if you call and get frontline csr and learn your request is denied, ask rep if he/she can tell you denial reason. Whether its yes or no...you can then ask to be transferred to the credit analyst. From my experience, Citi reps are pretty nice and will connect you to the right person. If rep says no on being transferred, thank them for their time and hang up. Then call backdoor number.
Good luck with the cli.
My Sears card started out at 1500. Then it switched to the Sears mc last June and a cl of 2600.
