I remember when I first got into credit and getting denied for EVERYTHING. That was about 7 years ago up to about 2011. I've never had a anything bad on my reports, just a lack of history. Looked like:
[Denied a few times for first time credit|
- 2007 - Capital One gave me my first card, 300 dollar limit, auto'ed to 500 a few months later.... It's been there ever since.
[insert denials for other products here]
- 2011, I got a card from my credit union. 500 dollar limit. It's been there ever since.
[couple more denials, stopped applying for credit for a while, no HPs, no new accounts for about 1.5 years]
- 2013. I applied for my first premium card (AmEx BCP). Non-instant decision. But was later approved for 2k initial limit (according to mailer 785 Experian at the time). 3x CLI'ed to 6k after 60 days, auto increased to 8k, 'offered to apply' and approved for 11k. Haven't wanted to increase it since.
- Sep. 2014 A few months ago, I got prosper loan to cover some moving expenses to avoid tapping investments/savings. Approved for lowest rate tier "AA" - was instantly funded after my loan posted. Some corporation (I assume) got it as a whole loan (instead of fractional). This has yet to even post to any bureaus. Prosper pull of 807 when app'ed (8% credit util).
- Nov 2014 This month, applied for Barclays Arrival+ World Elite. Instant approval, 5k limit. Barclay's TU08 of 833 (1% credit util).
- Nov 2014 My fiancee applied for a Discover IT, only to get denied (despite being AU'ed on the Cap One and Amex for 1.5 years and 760s MyFico Equifax as a result). They offered to consider a joint signer. App'ed with her and we got a Joint account 3k limit. Best part, they HP'ed her only once and softed me! So I'm still considering this one a success.
It took forever, but people finally people want to tell me yes! =D Though, now I'm slightly concerned one or more of them is going to flip with all the new accounts.
But, I'm basically in the 800 club having had nothing but revolving accounts (reported) and being in my mid 20s.
Long time lurker, rare poster on this forum. Thanks to everyone for all the insight that's got me to where I am!
Time to clear the the reports of new accounts and HPs for the next couple years again and prep for a mortgage (I'll never have an auto loan, as a hobby mechanic I only buy old vehicles).
Great story
