First time applying for a Barclays cc, first time ever getting a "30 day notification" and first time calling a backdoor number. Thank you myFico forum for providing so much info to get through it all!
This afternoon, finally decided to app for the Barclay Arrival+ WEMC and found out for myself that applying for a Barclay cc can be very different than for other bank cc's.
Called in to app, a very nice CSR took all my info and hit submit and came back sounding sad and told me I would be getting a notification letter in 30 days. Having been spoiled with usually instant approvals, I was a little surprised and a bit worried. Especially since I know myFico TU is clean, no INQ's, and my score is 820.
Thanks to this site, found the backdoor #, called and spoke to a very friendly CSR to ask if there were any problems with my app or CR. She saw my app was still pending and said she would go through it with me and push it for a decision today. Since I'm a SAHM, she asked a lot of detailed questions about DH's employment and profession and asked if I had any and how much in assets I had in my name only as well as restating HHI.
She then looked at my CR, said it looked great and that my score shows up in the 800-850 range. She said that she didn't know why the computer didn't initially process it immediately and went into pending further review. I started wondering if stating occupation as "homemaker" with a very high income raises flags in the system, though it's never been a problem with other banks whether applying online or by phone.
CSR hit the submit button and got an instant approval for 20K.
Needless to say, I don't think I'll be applying for another Barclays card for a long time.
Congrats!! 20k is an awesome starting limit with anyone!
Congrat on the approval and the CL.
Now that you have 1 Barclay CC a second might go smoother, but I would advise waiting for 6 mos. or longer.
Congrats!
Barclays can be strange when apping but when you call their backdoor number they're always so friendly.
Congrats! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for all the congrats. Conspiracy theorist that I can be at times, I'm wondering if Barclays has a bias against "homemakers". Joking of course.
Congrats! It's not just you. I have a similar score and got the 7-10 day message. I called after 3 days, gave them the same info as was on the app, and they gave me approval for $12.5K. Appears they just like to talk on the phone. Got an email yesterday, the cards shipped.
