AARP data point

I know others are probably thinking about getting this card because let's face it; the cash+ slaughter has happened. The uncapped 3% on all dining is now the best on the market, and 3% on gas isn't too shabby either.

The main reason I was hesitant on applying for this card is my age. I'm 22 and no where near retirement. Would they count this against me? I scoured the forums andost of the time the people who were getting the card were 40-50s, people potentially nearing retirement.

Well it was a cold Thursday night, and I really needed a dining card, even tho I said no more applications for the year after I received my citi double cash back in August. I put in all my info and got the "we could not get an instant approval we will contact you in 7 days with decision, if approved you will receive your card and card member agreement". I've gotten an instant approval on every other card I've applied for except for 1. I'm sure I've received a rejection based on my extremely young age.

Load up my chase app last night to pay my freedom bill. See that there are two accounts on there!!! Gave an enthusiastic fist pump that tiger woods would be proud off. I open it to see if it says my limit; a decent 2500, can't complain, still bigger than my freedom.

If you are wanting this card don't be afraid to apply based on age.

Credit score - EQ (from recent amex cli) 743. CK 760 discover 761 capone 760. CS 741 mint.com EQ fako 710

Income 18-20k (still full time student)
Housing - still live wth parents
AAOA 1.75 years - oldest is 4.5 Wells Fargo followed by 2 2 year old amexs, (love that back date)
No lates or baddies

The pulled EX which has 10-11 pulls depending if my first amex has fallen off yet.
TU has 3-4 depending if discover has fallen off already

Sorry for the Long Post but hopefully this helps at least someone

Re: AARP data point

Based on results from other posters, you leave the Chase AARP Card member number blank and plow ahead. Also, US Bank really nurfed the Cash+ Card ... Had my card since virtually the beginning and now the categories are getting so skinny it will be a 1% for me since few of the other categories relate to my spending. Thank goodness for my Citi Forward Visa with the old 5X!

Congrats...  Alot of MyFico's peope will be carrying this card soon if they aren't already.  If it gets nerfed, all the old retired people are going to be chasing us young people down with their golf carts!

Congrats Smiley Happy   the 3% is NOT only for Gas purchases, The 3% is for EVERYTHING you can buy at a Gas Station, is not like BOA cards that the 3% is just for Gas purchases...

Re: AARP data point

Congrats it is a great card! As others have said age is not a factor for this card for instance I'm 27 and got it. Also 7-11 apparently counts as a gas station, I have used it at a few that don't have any pumps and got the gas bonus.
