You could absolutely ask for it, but I would be prepared to hand over a 4506T. My plan is to ask for $48k next month on my SPG and request a ridiculous $144k next year if I get the full 3x. Given my relationship with AmEx and knowing that the check spending ability on my Platinum exceeds the $48k, I'm giving it 50/50 on income verification for that one but fully expecting it once I try to hit 6 digits.
