Yesterday I went ahead and tried for the 3x CLI on my Amex EveryDay card as it was the 61st day since I had opened my account. My credit limit for the card was $2,000, and had remained so since the card was issued in May. Within a second or two of confirming my information through the automated phone system I received approval for my new credit limit of $6,000!
For those interested in datapoints, this makes American Express the first issuer to give me a credit limit over the threshold of 5,000. The highest limit I have had prior to this was a US Bank Cash Rewards card of $3,000, which is a card that I recently closed due to my dislike of US Bank. Also, as of a few minutes ago, my account displays my Experian score of 732. That score is dated June 22nd.
I had actually tried this a few weeks ago as I had read in other areas of this forum that Amex has approved CLIs for some people before the 61st day. That prior request was denied, and when I received the official letter from that prior attempt, the only reason for the denial was that my account was younger than 60 days.
Congrats on the CLI and thanks for sharing your datapoint. I was ecstatic to finally have an AMEX when I was approved in March 2014, but sadly was not aware of the 3x CLI until about a year ago, which I have seen many people successfully perform. The fact that they use SPs is a no brainer that everyone should take advantage of this. MustangSaluki wrote a great guide here: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/The-Definitive-Amex-3X-CLI-Guide/td-p/18110... and another good source is http://www.doctorofcredit.com/increase-the-limit-on-your-american-express-card-by-up-to-3-times-its-...
I wish I would have know about the 3x CLI much earlier instead of waiting nearly 2 years before asking. Since then, I have become much better at asking all of my creditors that offer SP to ask, and would urge everyone to take advantage of SP CLIs where possible.
My SCL was 1500 in March 2014, then it was bumped to 2000 in March 2016, and I requested an additional CLI (online) in April 2016 bringing it to 4000. I plan on asking for a CLI in November, and again every 6 months after that.
ED has some great perks like other AMEX cards, some of which are targeted. I just saw a targeted offer which will pay for Sam's Club membership for 1 year ($45) to any new member.
You can CLI using the love button and it will imediately tell you if it is auto approved, denied, or if they counter.
