It's taken several years, but I finally climbed the ladder to an AMEX Platinum pre-approval. I accepted their offer because I have some travel coming up, so why the heck not? 😄 I have to admit, I'm very proud. Can any fellow Platinum members offer any advice as to getting the most out of perks, etc.?

Congrats on your Platinum Card from American Express!

If you don't normally use Uber, use Uber Eats with the carry-out option instead (just watch out for upcharges by certain restaurants when using this option). Definitely take advantage of CLEAR and Global Entry/TSA Pre-check if you are able to do so. I use the Saks Fifth Avenue credit to buy things like premium socks and really nice body washes. Use AMEX travel to book hotels, but buy airline tickets directly from airlines and use their awards programs. You'll get points for both AMEX and the airline.

Also, personal advice and opinion: Do not ever use the Pay over Time or Plan It features. Ever. Pay Over Time is on by default. Turn it off and always pay your AMEX bill in full. You can send up to five payments per day,  so have at it.

Any specific reason as to why its suggested other than paying interest if chosen to pay over time??

In addition to above, $200 airline credit and $200 for hotel staying credit, and another $100 credit for charges made while staying in the hotel room...Great travel insurance, rental car insurance, purchase protection...

$20/month off of Sirius radio bill.  With the walmart+ membership (free), you can get Paramount plus for free (saves about 9.95/month).  Right there is $360/year in credits.

Thank you, everyone, for all the congrats. The card came today and turns out it's metal. 😳 Pretty cool. Off to explore benefits and sign up with a couple!

Re: AMEX Platinum approval

I have a question. I haven't had a charge card since the '80s when I had my good ol' green AMEX and didn't give much thought to such things anyway.

I have some upcoming work to be done on a car I'm restoring, so expect to run some decent spend through the card.

Say I start with smaller charges and pay those, then have several substantial charges, pay those, then my spend goes back down to modest levels after the work is done. Does AMEX's internal system remember these larger charges? In other words, does the larger spend benefit me indefinitely or will it start decreasing again as my spending does? I hope I'm making sense.
