Hi, I'm a college student and I recently decided to apply for a few credit cards (3 this week), but I was wondering if I should also apply for an Amex for backdating purposes in future. My FICO score is 770 right now via Barclaycard. No balances. Utilization <10% (1% if including AU) except for first year of having BOA when I didn't know about utilization.
My cards:
FNB Omaha Visa(AU) - 22.6k CL 14y11m
BOA Better Balance Visa - 700 CL 1y7m
Chase Freedom Visa- 12.4k CL 0m
Sallie Mae Mastercard- 2.2k CL 0m
US Bank Cash+ - pending paper application (probable approval according to branch manager)
I know it would be adding a lot of accounts in a short time, but I also want to add backdating for when I'm done with college. I was thinking of the Blue Cash Everyday
Thanks.

How many inquiries do you have? Might as well let them all age at the same time.
Just those 3 inquiries from this week. 1 inq from 1.5yrs ago from BOA for that cc. No other inq.

You should go ahead and apply. Your credit score is great. And if you have an okay income, you should be just fine.
Agreed, I would go ahead and apply!

I may be in minority here but since you have SM card i wouldn't get BCE, i would think about maybe ED card instead so you can accumulate some MR reward points. Sallie mae is better version of BCE imo

I honestly wouldn't be using the amex much since my spending is extremely low. ~$150-200/month. I would pretty much only be getting it for AAoA in future. I'm just worried about too many new credit card apps at once. I'm not sure how much my FICO dropped b/c of these apps because I have never checked before.

Google for an AAOA calculator. See how much a new TL will cause your AAOA to drop. Honestly, you already applied for other cards and took the AAOA hit. One more, just one, will not have a massive impact on your score. Your inquiries will age together, which is always best. And after this application, garden and all will be okay.
