AmEx Green Card

Well, it's me again from the post "Fifth Third Truly Simple- Really" ? I have something else to share.
I got an "Invitation to Apply" for an AmEx Green Card with 2x points in the mail today. Really just junk mail, from being online. It is a standard form letter of the type that goes out by the thousands every day.
I'm still in the rebuilding stage with my credit and figure I will wait until my scores rise before I try for something as cool as an Am Ex card. I read some posts online and saw that some people get approved by Am Ex while others got rejected. Their credit scores seemed to run almost the same so approval seems almost random.
Wellll... If you did read my Fifth Third post you kinda know how I am... ridiculously curious... that's how I am! I just could'nt help myself. I reread the invitation letter, got my keyboard swiping finger limbered up and filled in the app online. The plot thickens...

I GOT IMMEDIATE APPROVAL!! I REALLY DID! (And with no spending limit.)
OK, to say I'm surprised is putting it lightly. I am thrilled x2. I gotta say that I really feel as though I have accomplished something because I've improved my score enough to qualify for Am Ex and Fifth Third within a week. Now I know I'm truly getting my credit healthy again but I am not stopping yet. There's still a lot of work to be done. I am, however, through applying for cards for a while. Too many inquiries hurt, right?

Re: AmEx Green Card

Congrats OP. Green was my first AMEX card also--after 3 tries I finally was approved on the 3rd one 4 months into my rebuild.
But what interests me even more is the 2x pts. you speak of...can you shed some more light on that? I know there's suppose to be some kind of change coming to the Green card--2x pts. on everything would be EXCELLENT.

Re: AmEx Green Card

All I can tell you at the moment is that it is the "preferred rewards green charge card". It has 2x points per $1 spent at AmExtravel.com and 1x per $1 spent on other eligible purchases. Also has Payment Flexibility ( choose to carry a balance with interest on eligible charges of $100 or more.) Lots of travel benefits are included, they are prob included with other AmEx cards also)

I've never seen the point of that card or of having it.

Re: AmEx Green Card

Congrats! Love me some Amex. Too many HPs can indeed hurt your chances of other approvals. If you have a good lineup of cards that you’re happy with, I see no reason to app for anything else.

For people who are rebuilding like I was almost 6 years ago--this card is generally to "get your foot in the door" with AMEX. Chances are if you're not well established with them already and have a fairly new profile--they probably won't give you the Gold or Platinum or any of the revolvers.
