AmEx HH 3X CLI and Under 6 Months

Been in the garden for the past 6 months and will be for a while TBD longer. But did a Science experiment while picking tomatoes.

3X CLI on my very first AmEx card back in after being Blacklisted for 19 years. Hilton Honors card that is now almost 1.5 years old and was of course at a baby limit of $1,000 due to just coming off the BL plus at the time also still having a Dismissed CH13BK (AmEx NOT IIBR) showing which has since dropped off/aged off. Currently have 6 Amex Cards including much higher limits now, Platinum, Gold, Green, BCP, HH, Delta. All 3 Reports completely clean with no baddies, UTL >8% and all 3 scores in the 740 range (due to an app spree of 8 new cards back in early March, but in the Garden since)

Now for the very interesting DP. I know that just about every DP we've seen and just about every Member on here (myself included) that is fairly AmEx savy and knowledgeable has always said and been under the impression that once ANY AmEx credit card got a 3X CLI (or I guess any amount really) that from that point forward it was 6 months, 181 days before another CLI could/would be approved on that or ANY other AmEx credit card the member holds. Even AmEx has said that. With that said I received a 3X CLI back in May, 2022 on my AmEx BCP card. So to test the 6 months DP in May and July, 2022 I used the link on here to try and get one on my AmEx Hilton Honors card and of course the link took me straight to the "dead end" page that card wasn't eligible for a CLI due to having recently received one on another AmEx card. But lately I've seen a couple posters claim to get a 2nd CLI after 91 days and not 6 months. So, now sitting at 4 months/126 days since the BCP 3X CLI I decided either those posters were mistaken, something is amiss, or maybe we've been wrong about the 6 months. So I went for it at 5am this morning (insomnia is a terrible thing lol). Again used the link on here because one is still not showing on my card. But this time instead of the dead page it took me to the CLI Request page where I typed in my 3X amount request and income and BAM! Instant 3X Love/Approval. So, I don't know why or if it's a glich or if AmEx changed policy or we've been wrong. But it was a CLI in less than 6 months after another.

Thats impressive, i was denied my 3X CLI almost 1 month ago so i have to wait another 91 days right ? But the CLI link is still available through the link on here and wondering if i still wait it out or try asking for 2X but dont want to reset the time frame again lol.

Yes, you have to wait 90 days after a denial as a general rule in the past at least. But if the full link is showing asking for your Request amount and Income, after what just happened on mine, who knows now lol

Re: AmEx HH 3X CLI and Under 6 Months

Right just like they say to wait "6 months" to request a CLI. My score updates next week, i might take that risk lol.

Re: AmEx HH 3X CLI and Under 6 Months

Congrats on your AMEX success, @bigseegarSmiley Happy

Yes, it seems that while there are "standards" with AMEX, they can be broken sometimes.  Perhaps my posting was one to which you were referring.  My Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant was approved at $15K.  Approved for the 3X CLI to $45K at about 65 days later with no Financial Review required, even though many members get that at $35K or higher.  Using those "backdoor links" you mentioned which may have helped the CLI request to appear, I asked for $75K and was instantly approved only 136 days later and again, without a financial review. Smiley Very Happy

Something I've not yet reported elsewhere is that on the day I was approved for my Blue Business Plus (09/01/2022), I revisited that link on my Marriott card and got the CLI request form to appear only 98 days after the previous approval!  I asked for $90K (+$15K CLI) which would match my recently boosted $90K on Chase Sapphire Reserve.   Apparently, either by exceeding $75K or the short interval between increases, I finally hit the request for Financial Review.  I allowed digital access and am not really expecting approval, but I'm fine either way.  That $75K limit came fast and it's already very high.   I'm grateful for it and the tips I got from the community that helped me to push it.

So yes, YMMV with AMEX and I believe there is a lot that goes into their decisions including length of membership, FICO, income, past spending and payment patterns, and credit-seeking.

Naw actually I didn't see yours. But that's more great DP's about it. As far as time with AmEx I'm sure that does come in to play as well, no doubt. Even being BL'ed for 19 years my new cards still say "Member Since 1984" and any time I call they end that call with "Thank you xxxxxx for being a Card Member Since 1984" lol.

Re: AmEx HH 3X CLI and Under 6 Months

Congrats!

Interesting - I happened to call into AmEx the other night to upgrade my BCE to a BCP and at the end of the call I decided to ask if my Cash Magnet was eligible for a CLI (knowing that it wasn't but I was on the phone already).

She informed me that my account is new (opened on 6/19) and that I'd have to wait until 91 days to request (9/18).

I asked her if the increase I got on my Blue Cash on 6/17 had any affect on when I can request an increase on the Cash Magnet.

She said "no, these are separate accounts with separate limits that can be adjusted independent of each other. You'll just have to wait 180 days after each approval on each respective card"

I thought maybe she didn't know what she's talking about but your DP's are giving me hope that 9/18 I might be able to move from $5k to $15k on my Cash Magnet

Cheers!
