So I went on a bit of an unexpected app spree recently for myself and my DH. We are both rebuilding, but we are definitely in the final statges right now. In 12/2023, both of our credit files will finally be clean once and for all.
Starting with the DH, we applied for the Hilton Surpass card back in January. He was instantly approved with an SL of $1k. He only has a Delta Gold card with a CL of $1k right now, but his history with AmEx dates back to 2013. This last week, I got a little impatient and decided to see if they would give him the Gold charge card, because I had been turned down for it quite a few times due to negative items on my Experian report. Well it went into a pending status. This was over the weekend so AmEx was closed. We called the Monday and he was instantly approved over the phone after answering a couple more questions. The papers said his POT limit is $1,750. DPs: EX score cited was 628. He has 6 charge offs reporting, 2 of which are unpaid, from 2017. He had 3 inquiries showing at the time. Many other open and paid on time credit cards. These were both shocking approvals, to say the least. But I think it definitely shows having a positive relationship with AmEx can sometimes outweigh oast credit issues.
Meanwhile, I decided to apply for the Platinum while my DH's Gold app was in pending status. I thought it would be a decline for sure. I had applied for the Gold back in January and was denied for the same old reason of having a charge off on my EX report. Well, I was logged into Experian the other day doing some credit monitoring, and an offer for the Platinum popped up in my Card Match page. I had never seen the Platinum listed on there, so I decided to apply since I was interested in the card and the bonus. I was instantly approved! They even gave me the card number right away and let me add it to Apple Pay. My papoers say my POT limit is $17,000. I think there is definitely something to this Experian match situation, because I was just denied for the Gold card and my credit has not changed much since then. And my DH got the Ollo Rewards Card for Nurses last year using Experian match too. DPs: 689 score, 2 inquiries, 5 charge offs from 2017 (only 1 unpaid), many open and paid on time accounts.
After I got approved for the Platinum, I decided to try my luck for the FNBO Getaway card. I plugged in my info and was pre-approved for $11,600. I accepted and it was instantly approved. This matches my limit on the Evergreen Visa, which I have had a few months and really like. I am going to use this card for a BT, but it's not a bad keeper card in the long run for the 3% categories with no annual fee.
Congratulations. Getting approvals for the things you want instead of what you can get during a rebuild is the best feeling.

That's such an eloquent way of putting it! Yeah, the Gold and the Platinum are 2 cards I have been wanting in my collection for a while. I want to transition to MR points to get better value on my dining and grocery spend. It took two years, but it finally happened! Determination and experimentation....
Congratulations on you and your DH's approvals! Nice job!
Congrats on all the success!
Some top cards, grats to you and your DH on the success ![]()

That's terrific!! Congratulations on all of your Approvals!! 🎉🥂👏
Congrats on all your approvals!

Congrats on the Platinum. Been waiting on travel opportunities to open up post pandemic before I pull the trigger, but it's coming. My Gold will have to do for now...
