Amex 3x CLI after maxed out for 2 years!

I've had my Amex SPG card (Bonvoy) for about two years. I maxed it out the second month and made the minimum for 23 months in a row. So my card was actually reporting over the 2k limit on a monthly basis. A few days ago I paid it off completely and asked for a CLI to 6k online. Instant approval. EX score is a 735, with 34% overall utilization across 7 accounts. 

I had always heard that Amex did not like people who carried balances—which was why I thought I wouldnt get the 3x CLI after having the card maxed out for so long.

this is music to my ears. because i just paid down my debt. including 2 amex cards. and will be asking for my CLI in a month or two after my scores update. (amex uses 1 month old scores). thanks for that bit of info!

Good job and nice to know. My BCE was maxed out for two years and after a work bonus, I paid it off and it's been paid off since March with regular usage + payments so it reports at $0, but still no CLI for me.

It's a $1000 CL so maybe it's just taking foreverrrr to grow. My EX is 673 so maybe it's too low. I'm waiting to get to 700 before asking again.

Ya I was suprised as well due to what other people had reported. I carried a $2030 balance on a $2000 limit for two years. When I paid it off I was half expecting them to close the card.
