Amex Approved. Instant card info doesnt work

I was just approved for an Amex EveryDay card, and chose to receive my card information right away. I try to use it to start an online account, but it says my account is locked, and to call the number on the back of my card.

I dont have a card, so which number would be the most direct to ask about the locked status? Just the main customer service number?

Anyone else have this happen to them?

*UPDATE* - I was able to create my online account using the link from the welcome email. Worked like a charm. Already have my card info, just waiting for my card. sCSR said it was mailed out yesterday. Smiley Happy Smiley Happy Smiley Happy

^ is the number on the back of mine. Probably the best first contact and they can transfer you if there's a security lock or something.

Thank you! I will give that number a buzz over lunch hour today, and report back how it goes.

Call customer service and ask them about it they might have to transfer you to online services. I always assumed though if you were approved online you should have been able to create your new online account right then without the card but it's been so long for me I honestly can't remember.

That number took me to the card holder front door. Thanks again.

CSR informed me that Amex is still working out an internal issue where Temp CID's are not being recognized by their systems, so new card holders need to wait for the cards to arrive via snail mail. No biggie there.

To create a new account now, you are required to have both the card number and the CID (for personal cards). Business cards (without CID) only require the card number and billing ZIP. At least this is what this particular CSR stated.
As I menitoned in my previous reply (before I saw your post come in), Amex is working on the issue still.

Re: Amex Approved. Instant card info doesnt work

If its really an "issue" they have been working on it since last August when I re-opened an Amex account.  You have to have the actual card in hand to open an online account because the CID on the temporary card is different from the one on the physical card.

But you can add any subsequent cards before receiving them by using the CID of an active card.  I thought that was a bit odd.

It does indeed, as my wife and I just bought a new (to us) 2011 Elantra Limited in March! She loves it for her 118mi/day work commute here along the ocean. Best car I have owned! I have my eyes on a GT... maybe... Smiley Wink
