Finally pulled the trigger on my goal card from the start of my rebuild a few years ago, the Amex Platinum. Instant approval! Can't wait to get my new card in 2 days. A few questions though: Sometimes I see people have pay over time on their platinum cards. Is this something I need to apply for seperately? If not, how do I see my limit? Also, is there a checklist somewhere to maximize benefits of the card? For reference this year to date I've spent about 64k on my Amex Delta Gold card with a 2k limit. This card will be my new daily driver. (Side note, after I was approved I hit them up for a 2x CLI on my gold card! It's a good day!)
If they didn't give you Pay Over Time/POT, from the jump, you may be eligible to gain that feature later by checking online or calling
The spending power is not set and can change at any time at the discretion of Amex. Spending power and POT are separate. Spending power can far exceed POT limit, at times, if applicable.
You can check if a charge may approve at your current spending/swipe power at anytime online, on the app, or by calling in.
Personally, from the charges I've checked, Amex will let me spend a good bit past my revolving limits and POT limits with them.
A checklist of benefits found via google, or refer to your cardmember agreement and list of benefits that comes alongside the Platinum card:
Congrats on the Plat and if you run that type of spending through it, you'll pile up some MRs pretty fast. In your account under the Platinum tab, you can select Benefits and you'll find a lot of info there on the various things it offers. I think I spent about two hours reading, enrolling, and activating various benefits, and I'm not done (for example, I haven't selected my airline of choice yet as I won't be flying for a bit). There's a lot to absorb for sure but it's fun ![]()
Congratulations!
Nice, grats on the platinum card ![]()
Congrats
Congrats on approval!! Don't press spend limit, unless you intend on using for a purchase. Consistently pressing button for no reason can result in AA. Confirmed by a user who worked for Amex.
That's great! Congratulations on your approval and acheivement!!
If you ultimately get the POT limit attached to your account, the MAX CL for that is $35,000 (on this particular card) and if you decide to carry a balance, the card does not report your CL so what I've found is that I can carry a balance on that POT limit and it doesn't count against my utilization on my other "credit" cards as the reporting agencies still see it as a "charge card" even though you have may have a credit line associated with it.
Congratulations on your Amex Platinum approval!
