Hello.....Hello
I should be in the garden tending to my seedlings, since I've opened 4 new credit cards in the last 6 months. Darn those Comenity Soft pull preapprovals. In June, I think I opened Total Rewards Visa(3000) and in July I opened a MyPoints Visa(2000). In Aug, I opened my US Bank Cash+(6000) via a pre-selected/pre-approved offer. Also, I opened a TrueValue Discover(3000) -- don't ask me why. I guess I'll keep these new cards for about a year and close them except for the Cash+ and MyPoints.
So with the cards in my profile, I wanted to clean up a bit and closed a Fingerhut (800) and my Walmart charge (4500) and then had my Walmart Discover increased via the Luv button to (7500) about 2 weeks ago.
So, like I said -- I'm gardening.....
..........and continue to read stories here on these boards. Lately, I've been interested in obtaining a real AMEX and I've read the general consenus is that the easiest card to be approved for is the Delta Gold Skymiles -- right?? I narrowed down my choices of Amex to the annual fee. I was comparing the Delta Gold, Costco, and just the Blue Cash Everyday, since no annual fee. Last year, I applied for the Blue Sky by accident since they have (WOW) 5 different Blue cards and of course I picked the wrong one and was declined -- just desired the basic one with no fee.
Well, a few hours ago I app'd for the Delta Gold Skymiles and the cursor took forever to come back with an answer and then finally I got the 14 day message .....
Question: Do I need an Amex? NO! Then why apply?? I'm interested in the backdating, since I had an Amex Green card when I was 19 and moved into my first apt. It came pre-approved and all I had to do was sign the line -- the good old days
What kind of evidence do I need to show that I had an Amex many many years ago for backdating??
I would recommend calling. I app'ed for the Delta card a week or so ago and got the same 14 day message. Called in, answered a few verification questions, and was approved.
In terms of evidence for backdating, it helps if you have the account number. In my case, all I had were the last 5 digits of the card, the email account it was linked to, and when the application was made. I talked to an agent via secure message and my account was backdated with a new card sent out the next day.
Good luck!
As FYI, charge cards should be easier to get than Delta.

Now I can close Macy's Amex(4000) and maybe even Macy's(1500), since their interest rates are excessive...........Now, a real Discover would be nice.......Oh yeah, I'm gardening.........

+1 Congrats!!! well done!!

What a great day and AMEX reps are just so helpful!!! I just called the 800# to inquire about my new card and they told me the limit which is only 2k, but I really don't care about the limit. I was most concerned with backdating, so I told the rep I had an Amex Green card many moons ago and OMG, he noticed that too in the screen and submitted a new card with my new member date since 1990. I could of sworn it was in the year of 1988, but that's only 2 years difference.
I'm just so happy that the new card will reflect 1990 and that's like 23 years ago. Wow, that should really help my AAoA, which is currently around 4 years. Thanks MYFICO for all the relevant information on these boards!!!
