What I've read is that when you are an Amex cardholder you get a SP for denials and HP for approval.
More recently Amex has been doing only soft pulls for some existing members approval, but may not always be the case. If after tomorrow you don't see any alerts when you subscribed to all three bureaus monitoring, then it's probably a soft pull.
I recently got approved with the Everyday card and I already have the BCE, no alerts either. Later verified it's a soft pull.
Congrats CaptainE!
Wow! That's good news. Congrats! I just recently upgraded my BCC to BCP. Does that mean if I apply they might just use SP? Will they warn you they are going to use HP before you submit on the fine print? I have several pre-approvals they sent to my e-mail but I worry to apply because of the HP. Thanks!
Do you use the pre-approval or you simply go to their website to apply? Do you think it is possible to talk to an agent to ask whether it is SP or HP? Thanks!

They will inform you that by submitting the application, you give consent to them for pulling your credit report. They do not state pulling your report is a hard pull or a soft pull, and it may end up either way.
When I applied for my second Amex, they did pull my report separately (even though they did account reviews regularly), although the application yielded a soft pull. So when you apply, they are probably not going to use previous SP.
Usually an additional hard pull isn't something much to worry about, unless you are really about to get a big loan or something.

I was pre-approved for every card from Amex but I still apped without the pre-approved application.
Don't count on agents, they are not always knowledgeable about everything and they may give incorrect information. This is kind of working like magic and I am not seeing a pattern yet.
