It's really strange to me to get approvals after years of crappy credit. I spent a couple hours on the phone working through some issues that will boost my FICO score and decided to celebrate by going on an app spree!
I was approved for:
Cap1 QS - $500
Fingerhut - $500
Kohl's - $300
VS - $250
Express - approved but no details? not sure what that's about
Firestone - $900 (this is a big deal to me because my car is 10 years old and I feel relieved knowing I can cover some emergency repairs without dipping into savings)
My immediate goal was to keep my utilization as low as possible knowing that I have several expenses that will have to be charged, even if that meant opening more accounts. I chose the store cards I did because that's where I like to shop. Except for Fingerhut, I just knew they approve everyone. Also, because I'm saving for a down payment on a house, I don't want to tie up my cash in secured cards.
I was denied for CareCredit, which honestly I was hoping I'd be denied because I know it was going to throw off my utilization goals if approved. If denied, the orthodontist's office will finance it through the office and not report it unless it gets turned over for collections (which it won't because they also won't take the braces off if not current, haha!).
