Re: App spree; unexpected outcomes and lesson

I'm never a fan of app sprees.  I continue to open like 5 person cards and probably 2 biz cards each year.  FICO has been very stable.  Never any ding or whatsoever.  And still healthy starting CLs too.

Sure some people still favor spreeing and gardening.  It may work for some people, but not all people.

For most people, a healthy and stable credit profile is very important.  You want to space out, not roller coaster, up and down.  That means financial stress.

It is good results for the situation.

I think for the BILT, they really want to broaden the cardholder base.  So it is relatively easy to open the card, but hard to get a high CL.  I've seen so many people getting like $2,000 or $3,000 CL.  For people who pay high rent, that is just not enough.  Also, Wells Fargo like to put a long holding period for payment verification.

I'm not a fan of application spree.  I like quality than quantify.

Huh so Bilt is like Autograph, I've seen guys here with socres of 800 get 3000 or something for that card. My rent is about 600 lol, so SL-wise for that purpose, not bad.

Agree about quality, but couldn't wait any longer to pay for rent and airfare! Smiley LOL

We have one BILT with $33,000 CL.  It is not that everyone gets $2,000 CL.

Once your profile is thick enough I don't think it really matters, but AoYRA > < 12 months is a score card segmentation factor and comes with a big score change from recalculation of algorithm metrics the longest I have managed to go is 9 months so I get the pros and cons of both methods. I think like you I will always be sub 12 months of AoYRA.

Re: App spree; unexpected outcomes and lesson

Congrats on the App Spree. 3 of 4... not bad.

Also, a very informative thread.

Hey my EX inqs # is like 26. Guess how many apps failed Smiley LOL    Lesson learned! Joined Myfico too late 😭

You should have spent more time in my 500 post 6 month long threads deciding what to apply for and when. My idea of aggressively persuing credit is your idea of "gardening"  Smiley LOL

Hey I did read your megathread, by now I've given up, can't follow the Proustian discourse Smiley LOL

I would've just apped already if I were you lol, but better than me mindlessly apping! I regret pretty much all apps last year except for Citi. Savor One this year too. I would've stayed clear of Cap 1 and Chase and apped Disco, Amex and Boa first, which can grow fast. I actually admire members who have like 4 cards and all with more than 20k CLs!  Especially with a low income like me, less is better!

And I did garden for 8 months! 😁 Can't 'promise' that long next time though 😂

Does it count if I have 3 personal cards, and one of them has a CL of more than $20K? I think I ended up with roughly the same CL as you, just with far fewer cards and inquiries. Considering all three of our credit histories are almost exactly the same length, you, I and @uncredited took very different paths.

Congrats, BTW. Good to see you got a decent SL. And PenFed should grow fairly easily.

So roughly 1 personal card per 4 months in your case? Hmm!

Obviously your way is better and saner! Envy your 20k card! I regret all apps last yr except Citi DC one, in retrospect it was THAT bad 😭

Saner, maybe. Smiley LOL But I think there's some value in front-loading cards, like @Beefy1212 is doing. The trick is not to get stuck with toy limits. There's probably a happy medium in there, and I'm probably a bit too far toward the too conservative end. I think I might try a mini-spree in a few weeks, but that would be 2 maybe (maybe) 3 cards at most.

Yea... That 500sl USB Go was my clue to stop, instead I went for that AAA rewards visa because hey it was EQ lol and got a nonsense denial reason.

No one gets denied for too many inquiries with no inquiries in 15 months.
