The question is that, do we really need that much credit line in such a spree?
Huh, in my case I had clear goals, not necessarily SL(but the more the merrier!
)
Bilt for rent, transfer pt to airline like AA, primary CDW, no FTF
AA for airfare(but one could of course argue that you could just pay with cb cc, it's not like MileUp has any huge side benefits lol)
PenFed, diversify(CU AND my first Visa), got checking so why not
, no FTF, CDW too methinks? In this case I hoped for at least 5k SL, since my EQ report is the cleanest(fewest inqs)
Future apps all have clear goals
Citi CC versatile, charge IW tennis tournament ticket and get 5% back
Citi Rewards+, useful function, both Citi CCs need not have huge SLs, in fact could PC to those
US Bank Cash+ my ultimate cb card, cover so many areas: transit, gym, cell phone bill, fast food 5% (ideally need 2 lol, so maybe another CU's Max Preferred)
WF Autograph, versatile including gas and travel 3%, no FTF
As general travel card, Disco Miles and BOA TR, and I like BOA's Museum on Us program
Will ditch Tomo and Synchrony Amazon sooner or later, no use for them
The US Bank Cash+ is on my short list as well. I'd actually prefer a Max Cash Preferred because you don't have to set the categories once a quarter (once you set them, they persist), but the only local FI that offers a MCP has a terrible rep (yes, I know I could get one from further away), while USB currently has a really good checking bonus and the fees are waived with a card. So I'm torn. Either way, I will be at 1/12 shortly, so I should at least have a chance.
If I thought I could get it, I would have snapped up the Citi Custom Cash as my second card last year. But right now, it's an EX pull which is my worst, and the new AAA Everday's 5% on groceries is a very attractive substitute. I'm just not sure about Comenity, and would like confirmation you don't have to be a member to hold the card.
@BronzeTrader Some of us consider 5 in over two years to be app sprees ![]()
@Anonymalous It really is impressive how different the three of our routes went. It's hard to figure out who had the better idea. I'm lining up only "premium" cards without the junk, but OTOH, @Anonymous has TONS of accounts and arguably the much more useful profile than mine that's premium but barely more thickness than before I started. I may be the worse one in the final profile. Although I will say the deny in there massively derailed where I would have been now. If the July app had been an approve I'd be talking about adding a 4th next month rather than still debating about the third, so not all of my route was restraint, I was kind of forced into the excessive restraint path by the deny on the critical number 3 combined with the inqu of number three making Amex pull any prequal offers at the time so I couldn't go my alternate route either so everything is 1 card and 3 months deferred. I wouldn't have been QUITE the paragon of indecisive conservatism that I am had that gone the other way. If I had done it the @Anonymous way an gone for for the lower hanging fruit to add an account Cap1 wmt at the time, would I be ahead or behind now? IDK. This contrast is good though. There's virtually none of this on the forums, the 3 of us and a few other fit a very underserved niche here were "new credit" mostly represents students/wealthy immigrants otherwise which is very different. We're very much among a smallish group of outliers with few DPs available.
And by mini-spree you mean 2 or maybe 3 cards for the YEAR right? ![]()
@Beefy1212 "No one gets denied for too many inquiries with no inquiries in 15 months"
FNBO prequal denied me for "too many inquiries" with a grand total of 1, lifetime....though it was within 15 months.... There's an exception to every rule ![]()
And people wonder why I think every app must be a 100% gurarantee ![]()

What? Credit card, checking monthly fee waived?! Ugh when will I get it lol does secured card count. Thx!
Smartly;
'or hold an eligible U.S. Bank credit card'
What is eligible then? 🤔

Clear as mud, isn't it? Here's a slightly better source (PDF):
Among the requirements to waive the $6.95 monthly fee on the Smartly checking account, it says "Presence of an eligible U.S. Bank credit card4", with the footnote "4. Qualifying accounts include U.S. Bank activated credit cards. Credit products are subject to eligibility requirements and normal credit approval and may be subject to additional charges such as annual fees."
That sounds pretty broad, but I'd still call to check about their secured card.

When I was instant approved for my fnbo I was 24/12 inquiries with an inquiry to Affinity the same day. USB gave me a card despite being 6/12 new accounts one less than 20 days old despite the well reported 0-2/12 rule... I tell people all the time, the denial code is almost never the actual reason it is just the reason they slapped on the descision letter. At the end of the day they do what they want.

To be totally fair, it was a bit in jest. It was a prequal not an app they denied for those reasons. Inquiries was absurd as a reason and was their own, the rest of the absurd (not enough cards reporting balances, too many cards reporting balances (1 of 2)) I found out were just copied from EX Bankcard 8 resiliency reasons. But I don't actually know if an app would have been denied or not. Still it was a denial for inquiries with a grand total of one! ![]()

Wow you're clearly the winner
Maybe I should take heart and apply for USB Cash+ right away 😆 I don't mind toy limits, it will be for 5% categories and on 1 card, at best will be $50 except for fast food ![]()
Yea, I am trying to get away from toy limits my profile is old enough I want to start getting real limits I have added just under 50k tcl to my profile this year.

Surprised they gave you actual reason codes on a pre-qual rather than just the no offers at this time message.
I also don't understand why they don't just tell you the real reason you would think they would be incentivized to say we want to see 3 inquiries fall over and your utilization improve or we want to see more income/spend/history. Again you would think they would want to generate better leads for themselves. They make zero money denying you they can see your entire report with a soft pull no reason for nonsense like pre-quals that give bad reason codes or suggest cards their computer is going to reject it literally helps no one including themselves.
