Approval for NFCU Cash Rewards

Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a few months and decided to create a profile.

I joined Navy Federal last week and called a couple of days later to see if I was prequalified for anything.

The rep said all unsecured cards, so I went with the cash rewards and got $600.

I also have the following:

Discover secured - CL $300 // 4 statements so far

Capital One unsecured - CL $1500 // 3 statements so far, app says will get CLI to $2k in Feb 2020

BMW Financial - $59,000 // opened September 2016 (traded it in)

BMW Financial - $62,000 // opened July 2019

Authorized user

Wells Fargo - CL $8,500 // opened June 2013 (DH)

Capital One - CL $6500 // opened August 2013 (DH)

I had a major financial setback in 2009 after the economy crashed. I burned AMEX & CITI business cards during that time and my SSN was attached. Everything recently fell off my credit reports back in May. I did not file a BK.

I want to increase the limit on the Navy Fed Cash Rewards and apply for my second one then put the other 2 in the sock drawer. Any advice?

Thanks!!

Re: Approval for NFCU Cash Rewards

You're eligible for CLI or 2nd card at 91 days and 3 statements from last approval.

With your starting limit, I would recommend waiting 6 months to strengthen your relationship with Navy.

Do you have the Capital One platinum? If so, you can request upgrade to quicksilver: https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/Capital-One-check-for-upgrade-link/td-p/4934733

^ Try the upgrade occasionally to get you out of the annual fee of the QS1.

Re: Approval for NFCU Cash Rewards

I am wondering if you should have selected the flagship if you were looking for a higher SL. The rep said you were approved for all unsecured and the flagship min is 5k (correct me if I'm wrong)

Congrats your new card !!!

Hi, and thank you!! I don't know what their flagship is, eeek!

I was thinking I wouldn't get approved for AMEX since my SSN is attached to a defaulted business card.

I highly doubt they would get the Flagship since their starting line is 600.
