A little background.
Back in 2014, I applied for my first credit card(s) and car loan, personal loan.
I had been financially stable for a while and decided to take credit more seriously in the hopes to apply for a mortgage loan after a few years.
Luck would have it that not long after that, I became ill, lost my job and pretty much eveything went downhill. I tried to work with my creditors up to the point I was able to financially at the time. paid off some stuff however My 2 Capital One cards, Platinum and Quicksilver ($1000 and $1500), Chase Freedom ($2200) card were charged off with balances. My car was repo and the GM loan went into default, I believe $8,000 balance and add to that several medical bills in the totaling up thosands of dollars more.
Obviously, my credit went under and have steered clear of credit ever since. Things started dropping off arounf 2020/21 and I started recieving offers for CC and personal loans and although I was in much better financial situation, I decided to just ignored them.
Cap One and Chase dropped off my report back in 2021, GM dropped off around 2019. the only things I had in my credit were my medical bills and a paid loan from Onemain. Around, Jan 2023 the medical bills dropped off my credit report and the only thing left was the paid off loan. This left me with a credit score from Credit Karma ( transunion/equifax) of 670/671.
My spouse has great credit and encouraged me to give it chance and try to rebuild my credit with a secure card. Eventually I gave in.
In june 6 , I did a prequalify for Cap One and was approved for the unsecured QS card with a limit of $300. I honestly did not think they would even give me a chance or if they did it would have been under a secured card. Can't express how grateful I am to be given a second chance. I was also encouraged to try for the Discover IT card, I prequalified for the secured version of the card. I will finish up the process and do it for $1000, that way it gives me an in with them and hopefully upgrade with them later.
So here is the kicker, on June 6 the Onemain loan dropped off my Equifax report and left me with no score but because Cap 1 pulled my Transuinon only, I believe is the only reason I was approved at all.
So now to be patient and follow the great advice from this community.
