Approved for the Platinum at 19 :)

Amex Platinum Card Approval at age 19

I just wanted to send this information out there for anyone who might be trying to do the same- and slightly brag Smiley Tongue. I got approved for the Platinum card two days ago, I turned 19 in September. My credit score was 749 in the report that they pulled- I only had that score because I got added as an approved user for one of my parent's cards that was 17 years old and had no missed payments. I would reccomend the same for anyone else working on aquiring credit as quickly as possible. If you can find someone with a similar card history that's willing to do it, definitly do it. I was able to convince them by telling them they could keep the card that they would ship me (so I can't spend anything) and that it's free. I also told them it would help me substantially to get my feet off the ground and that really seemed to be the main convincer. After that, I had a good credit score (750 off the bat) so I started applying for two unsecured credit cards right when I turned 18, and I got approved for both- the Discover It and the Apple Card. I made small payments over the last year using the card and paid it off fully at the end of every month for both cards, and a week ago my credit score was reporting as 780 in credit karma so I figured I'd go for the Platinum because I'm active duty military and could get it for free. They approved me, and I'm already enjoying the benefits. I reported my income as 25k a year and they still approved me to my surprise, immediately. If you're able to reproduce what I did I think anyone my age could do it. I was told beforehand that they usually only accept 21ish+ but it would seem if you have a high enough credit score it will auto approve. Next up the Chase Sapphire Reserve Smiley Happy. Also thank you all who post on here for the tips that helped me learn so much so quick on how to improve my score.

Re: Approved for the Platinum at 19 :)

Congrats for the card. I didn't know about getting Amex Platinum card for free until somebody told me few months ago. Maybe during my time, it was not the same or I didn't get the info. Anyway, it is awesome and congrats! Since you are still active, it is best to open a bank account with Navy Federal Credit Union. They have good credit cards offer and services. However, just be careful not to overspend. I know a lot of guys in my units having that problems. The credit card companies for whatever reason able to get a hold of the our squadron and company. The company would make the guys going through financial counseling and if they failed to fulfill the counseling they would get negative counseling. Anyway, congrats again.

I just found this article:

https://militarymoneymanual.com/american-express-waives-all-card-holder-fees-for-active-duty-militar...

I wish I know about this in the past.

CONGRATS  !!!!!

Thank you for your service.

If you are looking for a second really nice cc i suggest you join Navy Federal Credit Union, its only like 5 or 10 bucks to open a savings with them.

I think they have a preference for active duty because every time i check the prequal page it asks me if im active duty, im not. i have veteran status.

NFCU has some pretty nice rewards cards and good sl's.
