Bank of America - CLI Approved for Higher than Requested?

Hey Everyone,

I've had my Bank of America cash rewards card for a little over 6 years now. It started with a paultry credit limit of $1200, that was eventually raised to $1700, then $10k, and then $17k.

I don't use this card often (as I consider it my "emergency" credit card) but when I do, I always pay it off in full by the time the statement arrives.

Today, I decided to request a CLI on this card (which I typically do every 12 months or so). I requested a limit of $25k. I got a decision almost instantly that stated "Congratulations. Your new credit limit is now $28k". I had to do a double take.... I've read about others experiences, and have had my own, where you request a high credit limit and BofA  counters with a lower offer, but I've never experienced them countering with a higher one!

Has this happened to anyone else? Hearing others experiences would be much appreciated.

Just happened to me last month, pretty similar figures. Limit was $15K, asked for $25K thinking they'd counter and it'd be lower, was approved for $26K.

Regretted not asking for more. I figure their internal limit for both our accounts is more than what was handed out. Or this is their max, who knows. Either way congrats on the nice jump! $11K is definitely worth an HP.

Well if you see the request increase language show up within 30 days from the original request, you can always attempt to ask for more. Worst case scenario it doesnt get approved.  I'd aim higher, and if it counters, you could call in and ask it to be reconsidered, but  would not advocate that since you basically just did two increases.  Instead I'd say within 30 days just call in.

Dont forget to ask for APR reductions!!!

It happened to me on one of my BOA cards.  I have a $3,000 limit on one of my cards.  I asked for a CLI of $5000 and they gave me $6000.  Funny thing is I've never used that card.  One of the cards I use regularly they declined my CLI.

Re: Bank of America - CLI Approved for Higher than Requested?

Congrats! THat is a great thing IMO it lets you know you're in good with them. DH has BOA cash rewards also, earlier this month was at 10k requested CLI to $15k and it came back as $19k, they have always been a good credit card lender (not so IMO on the banking side from past horrible experiences)

Enjoy that extra cushioning. Might be worth asking for a APR reduction and put that card back into rotation.
