Bizarro goes Gold (AMEX PRG), with an added bonus

Hello Everyone,

Once upon a time, I had an American Express Optima that was my highest limit revolver ($1,500 to start, eventually it went up to $2,500). Unfortunately, my job got outsourced and I burned AMEX. I was blacklisted for a long time.

Fast forward to this time last year. I was finally preapproved for a Green Card, which I took. My membership was dated to when I started out with the Optima (1998) and I was happy making small charges that I PIF each month. I was never pre-approved for a purchase of more than $1,750 and I never had more than a couple of hundred dollars a month in charges.

The other day, I decided to try for the PRG. I thought I would be declined for too many inquiries, but lo and behold, I was approved. Again, it's a charge card, but there's a bonus to this.

I was offered enrollment into the Pay Over Time program, which basically makes it a revolver of sorts at 19.99% APR (they can still decline the charge, of course), which I took. I was offered the same for the Green Card. A couple of months back, I was told I was eligible for this on the Green Card with a $2,000 limit, but I decided to pass.

Immediately after enrolling, I saw that my purchase limits for Pay Over Time were a bit higher than I expected on the two cards:

Green: $10,000

PRG: $20,000

Even though I can't get approved for a revolver with AMEX, I'll take this.

Experian Fico 8  is 724. I have a LOT of inquiries across all three bureaus.

No credit news is good credit news!

Congrats on going Gold! Hopefully by early next year, you should be able to get pre-approval for an Amex revolver! Smiley Very Happy

Congrats on the approval..... AMEX's underwriting is weird with the Pay over time... I was denied for the Blue Cash Everyday earlier this year... Weeks later I get a $25,000 Pay over time limit added to my PRG

How do you find out what your limit to spend over time would be. I hit something called spending power or something and it came back at $2500. I just received that card. As I was also blacklisted because I bk’d on them way over 15 years ago. Also app’d for my daughter and she received $10,000 or a magnet. I AU’d on that so hopefully can piggyback on that. I was anAU on my mother’s back in HS so my date on both cards backed to 1989. Lol
