I've been looking at the blue cash preferred card for a little while now. Finally took the plunge and was approved for $2000! My last approval with Amex was the SPG at $15,000, so I'm taking this as a cue to garden for a good long while. There are no other cards I want on the market, which, I know, is what we all say all of the time.
I'll probably move the limit from my SPG card to my BCP in anticipation of Amex losing the SPG card (I'm assuming). I also made an agreement with myself to close my Barnes & Noble card that I've had for 7-8 years and haven't used in the last 5. And true to my word, just got off the phone with BarclayCard (who I won't really miss). The overall effect of this is to reduce my total available credit across my cards by $500, but I'm fortunate. To to need anymore. My utilization is around 5%, so I'm good.
Now just need to get some gardening tools......
Congrats!!
I question or two and a comment or two. Question is what are your credit scores? What did Amex pull when you applied... I'm assuming EX since that seems the most common. How does your file look overall (derogs, mix, inquiries, etc).
Second, a comment with respect to that Barnes card you're thinking of nixing after 7-8 years. What is your AAoA? If it's 7-8 years or less, getting rid of that card can only hurt it. If you AAoA is equal to or greater than 7-8 years, no biggie letting it go. Just a little food for thought.
Congrats

Congratulations, cardfan.
Congratulations!
Isn't the SPG in the same product family as the BCP? If so, that's likely why the lower limit on the BCP.
Congrats on your approval!
