A couple of days ago I got a targeted mailer from BoA for the MLB mastercard. For those of you not up to speed, it's a co-branded version of the core BoA Cash Rewards card.
The mailer included opt-out language, but a variable interest rate range and contained language that the application was non-transferrable.
I present a somewhat atypical profile, so I thought I'd collect a data point because it piqued my curiosity.
- I'm a Platinum Honors client, primarily due to self-directed assets held in Merrill
- I'm well past the BoA 7/12 application restriction
- the aggregate CL across my current BoA cards is already above the $99,900 threshold.
- I have a mid 5-figures auto loan with BoA opened in the fall.
- the mailer was not addressed to me using my correct legal name, but to a valid alias which is correctly listed by all 3 major CRAs
Using the targeted code pre-populated the application with most of the necessary information using my alias, but I was able to update it to my legal name.
They pulled TU. This is the first time they pulled TU on me for anything other than a CLI request.
The application was deferred, which in itself was not a surprise as they started doing that with me $35K worth of CL ago with a senior UW performing manual review. I also take that as an inference that the 7/12 rule is not an absolute at least with regard to automated decisions.
I have no idea if they will reject or consider reassigning CL from an existing card in lieu of a straight-up approval. May take them a few business days to review and inform of the outcome.
Mod note: I've updated your subject to reflect your approval; feel free to change/edit if you would like. --UB
Thanks for sharing. I'm curious of the outcome, but hope it's good! 🤞
Keep us posted. Fingers crossed🤞
When my overall BoA exposure was >$100K, the Premium Rewards application (once it cleared the fraud/verification flags) had to be referred above a Sr UW to a Director for review. They were aware I was a Platinum Honors customer so I believe that had some 'influence' to an extent. It was eventually approved (IIRC it took over a week), but then I was given the option to shift some limits around with other BoA/Merrill CCs while they finalized the approval.
Thanks. I'm fine with whatever the outcome is but found it interesting that he invitation was addressed to my alias. Can't think off the top of my head what the actual source might have been.
Just found out alternative Cash Rewards cards can be different.

Good luck pn your app
It was approved as a World Mastercard with a $500 SL.
Normally BoA would send me an email soon after an approval but I just doublechecked and there's nothing yet.
However the web page to check check status page shows an approval date of 2/14 and upon logging in I can see the account including the card #.
I laughed when I saw the SL, I checked and it is a new allocation, I interpret this as the UW leaving it to me as to what if any CL I want to transfer over.
Looks like I have my new designated gas card. ![]()
Congratulations on your approval! 👍
Sorry it wasn't the SL you hoped for.
