While reading the forums a few months back, I kept seeing threads that indicated Capital One is up to some unusual activities concerning auto CLI's. I have had a bucketed Cap1 Platinum Visa since 2006 and have received a couple of small credit line increases before topping out at $1250 more than 8 years ago.
After reading about some of these auto CLI success stories, I decided to blow the dust off of my Cap1 Visa Platinum and started putting some bigger spend on it. I put $907 on it the first month. On the second month, I put $1072 spend on the card. Two weeks into the second month, I requested a CLI and was once again denied. I continued on with the spend in hopes that I may receive an auto CLI like some of the other members have reported recently. I decided to go for 1 more month of fairly heavy spend (3 months total) to see if I could get a CLI and put $697 on the third month. Within a couple of days of the 3rd statement closing (PIF), I received an email telling me that I had a CLI offer. Strange, not really an auto CLI like everyone else has posted about but the email indicated that I could have a fairly large CLI available if I chose to accept the offer. I posted about the offer here: https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/Capital-One-CLI-Offer/td-p/6676248
I posted some screenshots showing the email and offer that I received since it didn't sound like what the other members with auto CLI had mentioned and I was also having some problems accepting the offer. FYI, if you receive a similar offer as I did but can't seem to accept it, I had to do it through the phone app but don't bother hitting the luv button since it didn't acknowledge the email offer that I received and offered me a much more typical $150 CLI.
To summarize, Capital One gave me an additional $3k credit limit increase on my 17 year old bucketed Platinum Visa after spending 55-90% of my credit limit while PIF over a 3 month period. It was my last attempt at getting beyond $1250 on this card and I never expected that my Cap1 Platinum Visa (w/ QS rewards) would turn my Chase Freedom Unlimited into the new bottom feeder. I must also thank the MF members who posted about Capital One and their unusually out of character CLI activities at the present time.
With the additional spend you were putting on the card, what were you reporting for balances at statement closing? Trying to figure out if you were letting the higher balances post to your statement or were managing the balance to keep it low at closing.
