Congrats nice. So this 5 in 2 year policy is mainly freedom -slate-csp? Everything else wide open? Interesting.

@Sharingan wrote:Congratulations on your recent success. I'm curious what explanation you used for your new accounts. It's definitely a discussion I never want to have with an underwriter, which is why I usually don't ever call backdoor numbers if I'm not instantly approved.
I explained the purpose of each card (more or less the most recent ones) and eventually looking to expand some business growth with Chase (wink wink *Ink*) plus explained my personal spending patterns and the reasons for some of the tradelines that he had questions about. He could also see how far back my credit history goes and could see that I have not closed any Chase cards (i.e. just to collect sign-up bonus and bye!). He acknowledged my overall relationship with them and how cards have been handled including some very old Chase accounts. Then, he asked what kind of work I did and that's where our conversation pretty much left the interrogation chair as far as the new accounts. He definitely did not see me as a "bad" risk based on his overall review but was definitely inquisitive on the recent growth of new cards.
Now, I can guarantee that if I had been called by someone who was probably not having the best of days, the conversation and outcome would have been altogether different!
I see - thank you for the response. I had a 7th Chase card recently, but I closed an old one this past month (Chase Amazon). IHG and the British Airways cards are next up for me, so I was curious in the event that I get a similar call
I think if you've had them for longer than a year or two, you should be fine. I consolidated a few cards in my time but after having them for quite a while. And I used to have British Airways and Amazon long ago but combined the CLs into another card to simplify some of the spending on specific cards for UR points, hotels and/or travel rewards.
Definitely see how the call initiates. Someone that sounds "curmudgeony" may not sway things in the right direction. If you are honest and upfront with the answers (whatever they ask) then you should be fine but do not overvolunteer information, let them ask the questions and evaluate your responses. Pretty much like an interview, and be sure to ask some questions too (if applicable).
ETA - oh nice CC line up btw
(I can't fit all of mine - too many)
I've had my CSP, Freedom, and Amazon the longest, which are/were between 3 and 4 years old. The Slate, Marriott, Hyatt, and United were within the last 12 months. I've been banking with them ever since I was a minor, so I'll definitely be mentioning that in any conversation. I tend to respond.. not so friendly if people call my phone with a rude attitude, so I hope I don't get one of -those-. I've been particularly interested in hotel cards the past few years, and the IHG card caught my eye not too long ago. I also see that yours came as a World MasterCard, which doesn't seem to be given out all that frequently by Chase.
Thanks again for the information and enjoy your IHG card! Oh and thank you regarding my signature. I unfortunately have to leave off some cards like my 3 Synchrony Bank cards, Zync, Slate, Simplicity and a couple of others. I prefer to display the ones with greater usage and value.

I ended up applying, and I got the same message as you did Finstar. I didn't get that phone call, but the account showed up this morning when I logged in. I can definitely vouch that co-branded cards are definitely excluded from the 'new policy.' I have tons of new accounts in the past year, not even the past two years. I don't plan on hitting 40+ cards like you, but I'm definitely happy to try out the IHG card.
Lastly, I've discovered that 30 day messages aren't as ominous as they seem. It's the 7-10 day messages that I worry about. For what it's worth, the app status said absolutely nothing for me. Just a brief silence and then "to repeat this message..." followed by "to speak with a representative..." There was no message.
@FinStar wrote:I was doing some business travels and recently stayed at an IHG property and decided to apply last week (thanks to baller4life and her feedback on the card
) not to mention the decent sign-up bonus
Application went into pending and I figured it got declined (internal ceiling limit). I received a call from the verification/UW department on 6/12. Went through the whole verification process and was asked about new/recent accounts and whatnot (since I had not been checking the forums lately I wasn't aware of the new "Chase policy" until I stumbled into Yes-Its-Me's thread). Bottom line, the analyst was cool after explaining the recent credit activities and approved IHG for $7,000. While I'm sure Chase's policy may focus on Freedom/CSP/Slate as of recent, the new accounts questions definitely came up when obtaining IHG (I have opened way more than 5 in the last 2 years for sure).
This makes CHASE card #7 (spanning over several years of course). While verifying receipt of the card online (card arrived today), I also noticed CHASE auto-CLI'd my RITZ card from $10,000 to $15,000 (barely 6 months old)! No more Chase CC's for at least 1.5 years!
I also received a pre-approved CLI snail-mail solicitation last week for Cash+ and submitted the request via phone, approved from $10,000 to $15,000.
I posted IHG CC since a forum member wanted "official" proof
This is Fantastic!!! Congrats Finstar..
You did again, great success !!

Thanks for confirming that you can get 7 cards with Chase.
I dunno if you've done this or not but you can SM Chase and ask them to match the 80K point offer instead of the 60K current offer. I got thee 80K matched on 4/14 when the offer was 70K points. In the least they can probably match the 70K offer if not 80K.
If you got the 60K + $50 bonus, that's not bad either.

So appropriate! :-)
@msbia wrote:Awesome Finatar and congrats for surviving and winning the Chase back room interrogation! I would never do that again which is why I'm glad my IHG was an instant at $15k lol. Also congratulations on your CLIs!!
Thank you msbia! I recall you had great success on your instant approval despite the number of recently opened accounts
I think they left the gate open for ya!

Well, I wouldn't say "wide open", there's still that possibility that if not instantly approved, there may be some similar scrutiny mr taxi
