CLI Discover It approved!

So I requested an increase from $3k to $6k about 24 hours ago...got a very silent CLI today according to the website.  I actually made a previous CLI request from $1250 to $3000 about a month ago. Looks like even for user-initiated CLI they did not do any hard pulls.

Feel like I've done all that I can to pad up my accounts to garden for the next year or two before apping for an Amex. Scores are all ~750 and my weak link is by far the AAoA, which is 1 year 6 mo

TU: 777 | EQ: 814 | EX: 764
Last INQ: 3/26/21
AAoA: 4y 7m
Lowest limit: Chase Freedom Visa - $13,000
Highest limit: Discover It - $56,500
Available credit: $200,600 (8 cards)

Congrats see you in the garden to build your AAoA

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Congrats.

But I don't see why you need to wait for an Amex. I got mine with less AAoA and worse scores than you mentioned.

It isnt just about being approved, why not try for the best possible results, highest limit with lowest rate! The goal of just being approved is short-sighted.

Re: CLI Discover It approved!

I know, it's just that at this point (no-income student under a 30k loan) it makes no sense to be managing more than 3 cards. Next year, if I end up working somewhere close to a Costco, I might consider an Amex Costco in the near future.

Well, you automatically get the lowest rate if you get an offer from creditcards.com's card match. At least for the BCE or BCP cards.

With American Express soft pull 3X CLI requests at 2 month and then every 6 month interval after that, it makes more sense to get the card and then quickly get CLI increases to the maximum amount that American Express will allow you to have, rather than waiting years before even applying.

Plus due to American Express back dating additional cards in the future, its advantageous to get your first Amex as soon as possible. IE, to get one in 2013 rather than waiting.

As a no income student, he may have a difficult time getting a card from Amex right now. Also he may or may not have a difficult time using a lot of their cards to their full potential even if he did get in.
