At the beginning of the year Jan 2014, my mom asked me for help looking over her credit and fixing it up. I brought it upon myself to jump on the task and get a ton of SL (16 in total) that were reporting as bad debt fixed (they were forgiven student loans). She also had a few collection accounts showing. I DV those, but never heard back. Due to some other stuff going on we totally ended our fixing of her credit until today. She asked if I had checked it anymore at which point I realized I hadn't so signed onto CK at which point I noticed her score had raised 100 points to 652 (FAKO I know). All of the SL were put into good order and all but one small collection was removed, but is set to fall off in June 2015. She had no revolving credit, or even any open installment loans. I explained to her the importance of having revolvers so we decided to put some apps in. She was approved for the Cap 1 Quicksilver one and Cap 1 Classic Platinum (small limits of $300 but a start). Also applied for the WalMart card and was given the 7-10 day notice as well as the Chase Freedom with a 7-10 day notice (hoping to get approvals though). My mother hasn't had a credit card since her teen years when her credit skills werent the greatest so she is thrilled to say the least! Hoping we get official scores when the cards arrive.
