Just wanted to celebrate with people who get it. I got a HUGE CLI today. For background: I started with a limit of $500 on my Quicksilver card and got a $100 sometime later. I don't think it was as early as 6 months later because I've had some missteps on my credit rebuilding journey so I think I was stuck at $500 for awhile. But finally last September I went up to $600 and have been making more strides in rebuilding since then. The big factor I think is that we had a huge jump in income when my husband got a great job a few months ago. I use my credit card as much as I can and pay it off several times a month which is a pain with such a small limit. I've tried for a CLI a few times over the last 6 months to see if it would let me before the 6 months that Cap1 says you have to wait and it's denied me every time. So they did make me wait the full time since my last increase BUT they bumped me up to $4000!! I obviously always pay it off every month and only use it for what I would already be spending but I'm excited for the progress I'm making with rebuilding. Hoping to see a few points jump on my credit score for having more available credit.
My question is - is it possible to switch from the Quicksilver that has the annual fee (what I have now) to the one that doesn't have the annual fee? How do I go about doing that?
I also have a Platinum that I'm still paying off. I think I've read on here that people were able to combine their Platinum with their Quicksilver and close the Platinum? I'm fuzzy on the details. Anyone have more info about that? Is there any way to negotiate a balance transfer without the fees/with 0% interest?
Thanks for the help guys. The advice I've gotten through this community has been invaluable!!!
Congrats!! You give me hope! You can do an online chat and see if you're eligible for a PC. As far as negotiating a free BT...I have no idea. I will tell you what I had my son do to "balance transfer" his cards for free. He is using the card that he wants the balance on to pay our rent. He is then going to take the rent money and pay off the card that he doesn't want the balance on. I'm not sure of the data on your card, but he is able to do this because his Chase has a 0% offer on new purchases for the next year. It also has a fee for BT's. Just a little info of how he's using the cards to his advantage.
Captial One allows you to combine cards as long as they're eligible and as long as one of the cards to be combined has a zero balance and no pending charges. To see if your cards are eligible, log into your account, choose "More" from the "Services" menu, then choose "Request an Account Combination."
It's difficult to convert a QuicksilverOne (with an annual fee) to a Quicksilver (no annual fee). But it's happened. Capital One's official stance is that you have to wait for an offer and that the offers are infrequent.
People have had a lot more success in product-changing Platinum cards to Quicksilver. Maybe you want to try that route.
Balance transfer offers seem to come up frequently. Call and ask. ![]()

Thanks - that's helpful.
So you're saying - try to see if I can change my Platinum to a Quicksilver? So in that case I would then have a QuicksilverOne and a Quicksilver?
I was assuming that the card that just got the limit increase was a QuicksilverOne. If that's the case, yes. If you product-change the Platinum, you'd have a QuicksilverOne and a Quicksilver. Those two cards could probably be combined either now or a few months from now.

Yes QS1 just got the increase.
So... sorry, I should probably know the anwser to this because I'm sure it's been asked a a bunch of times but - how do i go about getting it changed? Just do an online chat with cap1?
Does doing that require credit pulls and will it affect my age of credit?
Thanks!
To do a product change, they just look at your account to see if you have any offers. I've tried but always told no ![]()
A few weeks ago I was able to PC my QS1 to the regualr QS. It was done through online chat and only took a couple of minutes. my CL is 7700 and it was easy as pie. No credit pull, no hassle and the card was there in a few days. Now if I could ever get a CLI again, that would be delightful.
I have two ancient QS1 accounts that I haven't been able to PC. I don't want to combine them into my QS because of their ages.
There was a recent post that 10 months of consecutive on-time payments would graduate a secured card. With the hope that something similar might apply to QS1, I'm using them every month. Because of their low limits, they've gone for months at a time without use. But right now, mostly by accident, they've been used for seven months in a row.
