CapOne Quicksilver $3000 CL 10 months after BK7 discharge

I don't know where to start with all of this but I'm gonna make it as short as possible.

My highest CL up until now was only $750 through discover when I was in college. I've had CapOne secured, Discover, Buckle, Kay Jewelers (canceled almost immediately), and Citi bank secured before CH7 discharge. From 2014-2016 I had all those cards except Citi secured of which I obtained in 2018. 2014-2016 is when I had late payments and charge offs but eventually had all those paid off via settlement or paid in full. Citi was my last card I had but had balance on it when filing for chapter 7 so I included them. Citi is the only credit card company I included in bankruptcy so my options are pretty much open. I also included a charged off checking account from chase and BOA but never had credit cards through them. Filed chapter 7 due to other things non related to credit cards before I graduated with my bachelors to have a clean slate before graduating from college.

Fastforward a bit. File March 2020 and discharge June 2020. I receive a credit one bank card with a $500 limit account end of September 2020 (I know I know credit one bank is bad juju because of fees but it was somewhere to start). Use the card for 8 months and it's now May 2021. I say screw it and decide to apply for my first major credit card through CapOne yesterday (May 7,2021) and low and behold I am approved for a Quicksilver with no AF with a $3,000 CL of which I was shocked. I really thought I was only gonna receive like $500 and maybe $750 if I was lucky but no...$3,000!!!! My first ever credit card to be above $750 which Is a huge step. I have made great financial changes in my life which is leading to a happier, healthier lifestyle.

Now, to the whole point of this whole post. I was shocked to see I was approved for $3,000 on my first major CC now 10 months after bankruptcy and don't know what other cards I could possibly be approved for that are BK friendly. I have to call discover since they never updated their systems to show my account was paid so my pre-approval was automatically denied. I would like to apply for more cards before my new CapOne account shows up on my credit. My scores are ranging from roughly 642-693 throughout all the bureaus. I need to start my credit mix now so I can apply for higher end cards in the next 1-5 years.

Also, since I burned Chase and BOA in bankruptcy only for their checking accounts, will that better my chances in the near future for credit cards through them or are they still anal about the whole 10 year timeframe?

Looking forward to hearing from all of you on this matter!

Grats on your very nice CLI Smiley Happy

AFAIK checking account deficits (BKs) dont factor into credit card decisions for Chase.

First Congratulation on your Cap one approval. Rome was not built in day, Take from some who had to re build over second time in life to day I have over 245K in credit limits, it is going to take about 7 years to do it right. First wate about six months then apply for a synchrony mastercard paypal, then increase over time. You will need to wate for Bk to drop off and late payments to stop reporting to cloud. I don't know how young you are you have enough time re build and still be young. My crash happen when I was in forty's and it took about 15 years to get to a point wher I can get approved for almost any credit product that I want, the only cards that I can't get approved for is AMEX and Chase. Good luck.

@bmmob, I got my Chapter 13 discharge in March 2020 and was approved for the same card you got, and for the same amount, nine months later.  It sounds like that is CapOne's go-to card/credit limit for those of us with somewhat aged discharges.  Smiley Happy

I've managed to land two other cards with even higher credit limits, the first started as a secured TDCash card with a $5,000 deposit; it graduated to unsecured exactly six months after my first charge, and the second is a PenFed Platinum Rewards Signature Visa with a $6,000 limit, which I was approved for when I hit the 1-year anniversary of my discharge.  Not saying you should take this path to more cards, but it worked for me.

Regarding Discover, last year I never got even the time of day from them in spite of the fact they sent me a "Pre-Approved" application in the mail; all I got from them was a hard pull and a denial.  I've since crossed them off my list.  Smiley Tongue

Chapter 13:

  • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank (now Bank of Southern California)
  • Filed: 26-Feb-2015
  • MoC: 01-Mar-2015
  • 1st Payment (posted): 23-Mar-2015
  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020
  • Closed: 23-Jun-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

As long as a bankruptcy shows up on credit reports, if you included them or not, chase doesn't really approve people for credit cards, correct?

I would not try till 5 years passes and you have built a solid track record since your BK. There are people who have gotten approved with BKs on file from Chase. The fact you did not IIB any credit cards with them is in your favor.

My credit one card probably won't ever have a limit over $1000 but imma keep it just to have. Since I was approved for this $3,000 limit through capital one, I wonder what else I could get. Should I apply for one more and age two accounts at the same time then apply for a third 6-12 months down the road? I have 1 inquiry in the past 6 months and like 2 in the past twelve.

You need to check your check system's report and EWS and all the secondary reporting angencies. Credit unions do check cex systems. Don't go after junk cards they will hurt in the long run. At some point you may get an offer from Merric bank go for it, only if ther is no annual fee. Merric bank is an Ok bank. again good luck.

Congratulations on your Capital One QS approval!

Chase will not approve a CC as long as a BK is present on your reports.
