Hi, in this post I'll share my data points for my approval of the Capital One Quicksilver Mastercard, which I applied for in Nov 2022. The card has a 0% introductory interest rate for 15 months and a sign up bonus of $200 if you spend $500 within the first 3 months. After my introductory period, my interest rate will be 27.99%. My favorite thing about this card is that purchases come with up to a 2 year extended warranty, so I was really happy I was able to get approved.
At the time of the application, I had 1 credit union card with a $1000 limit that was opened in 2016 that has 1 30 day late in 2019, and a car loan opened since Mar 2021, always on time. I was approved for a Dell Preferred Account, $4000 limit, 2 weeks prior, but that card was not yet showing up on my report, only just the inquiry. So I had 2 inquiries at the time, one from WebBank/DFS and one for the auto loan, both on Experian. There are 2 charge offs in 2020, one of which was a Capital One Walmart card actually (originally it was Synchrony Bank), that were paid in settlement less than full in 2021 and 1 collection that I paid in full in Oct 2022. Also, I'm an authorized user on a credit union card since 2002 with an $18000 limit, though no physical card.
If it might play a factor, I used the pre-approval tool directly from the Quicksilver page for this particular card, rather than using the pre-approval tool to see all card offers. The limit I was approved for was $3000. But, literally as I was writing this up, I saw that I got an email saying my credit line has increased from $3000 to $8000. Wow... I was not expecting that, so I'm not sure what might have prompted the increase. So far I have had 5 statements. I made 6 purchases since I've had the card which altogether total about $2600, with the highest purchase being $1055 and my highest balance being $1200, highest balance reported $1000, current balance $520, and I haven't yet used any rewards. I checked my Trans Union credit report, and there's an account review inquiry from a couple weeks ago, so maybe the account balance for today's date is irrelevant, I'm not sure. My current Trans Union Fico 4 mortgage score is 705, but I'm also not sure if that's what's looked at for credit line increases.
In regards to the initial approval though, they pulled all 3 credit bureaus, though the only score they referenced in my approval letter was from Trans Union. My score was 659 in a scoring range of 309-839, which from what I read is the 'real-world score range' for the Trans Union Fico 4 mortgage score. By the way, it did take me a little while to find where they included my score information, as it wasn't included in the mailed welcome kit. Instead, I found it located in the original pdf I saved the day I applied which referenced Account Opening Disclosures. I think I must've opted into paperless right away and that's why it was just in that document (just mentioning in case someone else ends up looking for their score and has a hard time finding it as well). Hope this helps ![]()
