Some of you may have seen my previous posts where I discussed my past credit issues and how I quit Capital One and stopped playing their games. Over the last year, my scores have gone up 150 points mainly by paying off balances and being religious about keeping utilization below 10%. I got two new accounts mid-year and worked limit increases. Imagine my surprise when I started getting mail offers from Chase! I looked up my inquiries and sure enough I fit 5/24. I've been wanting a 0 interest purchase card for a trip I'm planning and opted for the Chase Freedom Unlimited. This wasn't the card they sent me a mailer for. I was approved for $7500. That covers the trip I'm planning. So I apped for the "pre-selected" travel card. Denied. I figured it was due to inquiries. I got the Freedom card and the denial letter the same day.
But the denial letter was related to fraud. I called and a day later was notified of an approval. A couple days later I called to find out the limit because the email didn't state a limit. Since I apped back to back, the automated system had both applications on the same day. The first message said I had a limit of $14,500 and I assumed that was both cards combined. Great! Then it said for my other application the limit was $7,500. Between the two cards I have a $22,000 limit! Definitely surprised. These approvals put me over the $100k mark for available credit. This is something outside of the realm of possibility for me even two years ago. So much of my credit education has come from these forums, so thank you to all the contributers who have made this credit journey possible!
I was curious your thoughts on what Citi might do given the circumstances I described in the OP. I've recently received Citi "pre-selected" offers for an AA travel card. It seems they're very inquiry sensitive. I have a card with them, but it was balance chased from $5k to $1200. A few months ago they increased the limit to $2400. Based on what people have written, I should wait until July to app for it. I'm 2/6 for the bureaus I think they'll pull. Should I wait or try now?
Congrats! I think I'd wait at least two months or more for your chances with Citi. I know they will auto decline if you have more than 6 inqs in the past 6 months but you're not there yet. They also will if there's an inquiry or more in the past week. I don't think Citi will do anything to your circumstances though to be honest.
Grats on the approvals and SL's...
