I was approved for a Chase Freedom Unlimited @ $7.5K in November, used it exclusively for my spending, and kept it paid. I decided to risk it and apply for the Flex. I was a customer of the bank with a checking with my DD going into it and a savings account, and I thought it was a solid risk. When I applied online, I did not see the Flex in my options from inside of the Chase website, so went to the main page to find it.
I applied and was DENIED. I got an alert on my phone that my TU was pulled. This is the lowest of my three, with 12 inquiries on it, from 3 recent car purchases in less than a year. My TU score was 735 Fico, while my EX was 755 Fico. It then pulled my EX after I saw the denial on the screen. I took a chance and used the reconsideration line, as I didn't want two pulls to go to waste.
I emphasized to the first operator that I was a current customer of Chase and was interested in getting the best points for my regular spend. I got through the first level to be forwarded to the supervisor who could resolve the issue, and explained the same thing to the next person, emphasizing my desire for long-term use of Chase products and making it clear I didn't want a high balance, wasnt transfering balances, and that any credit limit at all would be welcome. It took 16 minutes altogether, but I was approved for $3K, and it showed up on my account within a few minutes.
I do wish to complete a trifecta and would like some advice about when to apply for the Sapphire Preferred. I will be under 5/24 again in March. Should I wait longer, and garden? how long do they prefer to see history?
