I hear if you fly United in certain ways or were a member for long enough you may bypass it

Congrats!

I have been a United MileagePlus member for many years, since sometime around 1998. I don't really know if I bypassed 5/24 or not, but I thought that recon would need to manually take care of the AU, which would be #5.

Congrats on your United card! Where do you plan on traveling with the J?

I was planning to do an inter Africa trip, ACC-JNB. I had hoped to route myself ACC-CAI-ADD-JNB on Egyptair and Ethiopian, both of whom are Star Alliance members. However, those plans may be on hold for now, depending on how things turn out later this year.

However, even if those plans are pushed back to 2022 or beyond, it'll be nice to have the MileagePlus points in the bank. I don't fly enough (on Star Alliance carriers) to accumulate them quickly.
