Well I decided to bite the bullet at work yesterday morning and I applied for the Costco True Earnings AMEX before my reports updated I applied last month on 04/02 and was denied for high balances however I had paid off my macy's but since my report hadn't updated the zero balance I knew I exactly why.
In April I took advantage of a chase blank check to advance some money into my Savings account.Give my SWA some usage as I'm not gonna be taking any summer trips this year. I didn't want want an updated report to show my high balance on my chase card because I'd get denied again. So I knew 31 was my magic number to make it happen 05/03/2013. BOOM! Approved 2k Limit to start!!! I wish you all would I have seen me. I work in a cubicle environment and I stood up when I got the approval message and I jump up out my seat and Jersey Shore Fist pumped it, lol.
I was gonna wait until Jan 1 for maximum backdating(Zync holder since Aug 2010) but I know that around the holidays I have utilization on a lot of cards. I had applied 4 times in the past and was always declined. Feels good to finally come through. In the garden I go indefinitely.
I hope 61 is as magical as 31. If 61 works I'll have to do the Harlem Shake. ![]()

when you apply, do you do it via amex site?
did you have to wait for verification? (of membership)

In addition to these questions - I would like to know if it makes any difference if you are already an AmEx charge-card member.
If you are an existing member - will they still do a hard-pull ?
I did it online, instant approval. I'm not sure much has been mentioned on the forums however the standad 10-14 day costco member verification has changed. You now get instant approval/denials and obviously the 7-10 message. I'm assuming after all these years they finally updated their systems to allow them to tap into costco's membership database. What a concept! ![]()

I 'm an existing amex member. I have had the Amex zync since Aug 2010 (Not sure if I will PC $25.00/annual fee isn't bad even if I only earn 1 MRE point per dollar spent).
If you are an existing card member your apply for any amex product and you are denied its a soft pull. Only approvals are Hard Pulls. and IMO totally worth it because your account will automatically update to your original membeship date (AAoA boost). So when I recieve my new costco amex it will have a 08/2010 membership date.
Everyone says to establish a charge card membership first because the underwriting is not at stringent as it is with revolvers. From there depending on needs/want people apply for cards there. However just because you get a charge card does not mean you will get any revolver. It took my 4 tries to get the costco amex. Good Luck!
